Warriors, I've been playing around with a simple but clever method I devised (not sure if anyone else is doing something similar) to help increase my adsense CTR over the last week, and the results have been great so far. I've managed to increase my CTR by 2-5% on the sites that I tested this method on. There is no guarantee it will work for you, but there is no harm in testing it out on your site(s). The Method: It involves using Jump Links or Page Jumps. A jump link is a link on a page that allows you to jump to a certain section on that page. For instance: if you visit a page on Wikipedia you will see a Table of Contents (ToC), and when you click on one of the links within the ToC your browser jumps to that specific section on the Wiki page. I place a jump link at the bottom of my content and below each subsection of a page (if the content is long). The link simply tells my visitor to "click to return to the top" (or something similar). When they click that link their browser jumps right to the top where my Adsense ads are, and they are effectively forced to view the ads on my page. ![]() I usually place ads at the bottom of my content, but I tried this technique on sites where the bottom unit wasn't performing and I've been happy with the outcome so far. If you like this technique - test it out and report your results here as I will be interested to see whether it works for you! How to Create a Jump Link in Wordpress? Cheers, To Your Success! |

That's a great idea, and certainly won't be breaking any AdSense ToS. I'll give this a go at some point. Thanks for the tip. James |

That is actually quite clever for a second reason. The ads higher in your HTML will be the higher value clicks. You may increase both your CTR and CPC at the same time.

My CTR across all my sites lingers in the 15% range without the use of any special Adsense theme. But, to be frank, the niche, keywords and advertiser pool have a greater affect on CTR than the theme. @Barry Yea, in terms of averages the first unit always performs better but I have had some awesome clicks on other units. Quality scores play a significant role in this regard. I actually tried this method to reduce the number of units on one of my sites in the hope that my CPC will increase, but it didn't. I used to be obsessed with trying to increase my CPC but I soon realized that there are way too many factors out of my control, so now, I just focus on increasing my traffic and finding the optimal layout. @Akki Awesome! I will like to hear about your results, but it give it a solid week before you draw any conclusions.

You just gave me an idea how I can use one of the new features in HeatMap Theme to even better effect. HeatMap Theme allows placement of ads anywhere you like within the post content itself (laser targetted ad placement). So in a case where I've got a long page and I want to link from the top to one of my specific bookmarked sections I can have the reader jump straight to one of my ads (with the content somewhere nearby of course )Must give that a go. Thanks for the cool idea. Much appreciated. Cheers, Stuart

Whether you are viewing a post, page or category landing page, you get a "Back to Top" jumplink below the content which instantly transports you to the top of the main content area where your main ad area sits. Thanks to the OP for the suggestion. ClickBumpers rejoice

that's a pertty smart idea! also what should help increase your ctr is to write very related aricles to the article someone is viewing so that he is likly also reading the other article! what you do know different is you use different positions for the adsense ads! so that the visiter will be "suprised" to see an ad at ta position he wasn't expecting it and because of this the visitor gives it more attention than usual! my english isn't the best but i guess you get my message |

Very clever observation. I'd be cautious of big earners doing this; you wouldn't want to lose your stable stream of income due to this.

I like this idea, however I believe the reason they are not clicking Ad units at the bottom of pages is because Google is not doing a very good job of targeting the Ad units. Over the past serveral months I'm seeing a lot of unrelated content in these ad blocks. I have travel sites that are spot on targeted to specific locals yet when I see the Ad blocks I'm seeing ads for Curises and Hotels in distant cities etc. I can see no reason how this could get you in trouble with Google and I like the idea, appreciate the link to the how to as well. |

You could make this even more tricky by using css float to stick a big "Back to Top" button across the whole page that stays there no matter where you are on the page |

Freakin awesome dude. I have been reading all of your thanked threads/posts all day long and you're nothing but good advice. I haven't created my first website yet, but I have decided to start out with a few micro/small niche websites to get a feel of adsense, I'm extremely interested in adsense. Thanks a lot for your contribution and I will continue to follow you and your success as I seek to make a residual income from adsense.

We use to call those targets. I think they still do, like target="_top" or some other section for links, denoted with a #. Never heard them called jump links. It is a good trick. Squidoo lenses use them as a table of contents. Paul |

| I believe you are referring to the css setting "position:fixed". A CSS "float" would only float the link to the left or right of its adjacent content ;-)

Guys this is a good trick, IMO I would not turn this trick into a spam fest of jump links. You need to be creative & not make it look spammy with giant buttons, lol. ![]() Do something like a legit TOC per page (wikipedia style), then jump to each individual <h2> tag on the content, make the first jump link have an Adsense Ad that shows just below the jump link landing spot on the page. |

Such a helpful post.. Higher CTR but low page view that is also a bad combination... So don't even concentrate only at CTR...,page views are also important..So concentrate on both.... >>>>>>>Formula==>> CTR*Page view*CPC==money($$$$$)<<<<<<<<<<< |

Sweet thank you! Now why didn't I think of that? I am going to implement this across my WPMU sites, let me know if anyone needs to know how to place it in their theme post php files.

I actually thought of something like this -- but not quite the same -- when I was launching my site. This idea seems better, so I'm shelving my old plan for a few weeks to test this out.

I believe the correct term is "anchor link", linguistics aside this sounds like an excellent way to increase CTR without breaking the TOS. I'll be testing it on a couple of my sites, thanks for the tip.
