So I have a little site that was ranking number 4 in Google. This site was hosted on one of my C class ip hosting packages and I noticed that the site was loading very slow, above 10 seconds. Now Google have been saying themselves that site loading speed is a part of their ranking factor so I decided to test and see. I transferred this site over to one of my Hostgator packages and installed W3 Cache plugin which helps to minimize files on your website etc and speed up the loading time of your site. This site now loads in 3.7 seconds and I woke up this morning to see that the site had moved up from #4 to #2 overnight for a keyword that has a lot of people trying to rank for it. So if your site is loading slow then make sure you get some good hosting and do whatever it takes to get your site to load fast. Not only will your visitors be happy that they don't have to wait around for ages but your rankings in Google may improve too. Will |

You don't really need to change that much in the settings plus you can always deactivate it if you don't like it. Before you activate it check to see how fast your site loads using Pingdom Tools And use Googles online pagespeed checker https://developers.google.com/pagespeed/ And then check after you've installed the plugin to see your improvements. While I'm sure your methods weren't bad, I wouldn't necessarily attribute your increase to that. There was a huge update this morning that's affecting just about everyone. All of my sites either went significantly up or down in position. If it were any other day, I'd probably believe it. |

Page loading and bounce rate is always playing a bit part in rankings.

Great advice. I don't really consider this when building sites. I definitely will now. I have a site ranked at number 6 for a pretty competitive keyword. I'm gonna upload this plugin and see what happens. Thanks! |

Site speed is far more important than people realize, with even moderate gains, you will see more traffic and more page views. I have reduced sites from 0.4 seconds to 0.3 seconds and seen increases of 15% of traffic (millions of page views, so it's not a statistical anomaly). 10 seconds is utterly useless! You've got 10 seconds to grab someones attention in general, so if your page is still loading after 10 seconds, you've simply shown them nothing interesting and they've judged you and they're gone. They are also less likely to give you a second page view as well, because they know how long it's going to take to get that page. So if you keep pushing up your speed, you're going to see more traffic from google,(better positions as you've seen) fewer bounces and more people clicking through your site and sticking to it. And that includes very small changes, from just 0.4 to 0.3. It makes a huge difference. Finding the best servers, and the best bandwidth is important. Too many people over estimate the amount of bandwidth they will need, disk space or cores. The most important factor is single page speeds. |
