Default MODERATOR. Time to improve the quality of this forum

MODERATOR

I am getting on top of the auto spammers. I am often still deleting over fifty posts a day but things are definitely getting better.

Now I want to get rid of the one line posters. Sure, there is sometimes a place for a short post but some people here never make posts as long as their sig files.

There are fantastic posters in this forum. We don't want their quality posts drowned out in a sea of pointless, uninformative posts.

You can all help in two ways.

1. Stop making "thank you" posts. They are against the Warrior rules and we have a thank you system.

2. Don't make duplicate threads. There were four different threads about the latest Google update. In future, I will just delete duplicate threads.

We are making progress in getting rid of the spammers but we need your help.

Thanks.

I've been reporting a lot of the obvious advertising/spam/pointless posts but would you like to start cracking down on the meaningless one liners or posts that have absolutely no purpose?

I'm seeing another trend, of reviews of WSO & outside IM products being posted.

They almost always start off with some supposedly newer member (low post count).

Then the author of the WSO or IM product will chime in just like clockwork, a day or two later, spamming their own links.

The flow of the threads are almost always consistent.

I reported one thread & do appreciate that it was dealt with, that specific product was one of the same guys that keep sneaking in reviews/links.

It's obvious who spams their own WSO/IM products, because they will never post anything in the SEO forum, unless they stand a very good chance of making money from that post.

Example, they will never jump in & help another forum member that needs help & doesn't have anything to do with what their selling.

A guy that sells backlinks or Adsense themes has plenty of opportunity to help without Paypal being involved (WSO, etc...).

Keep up the good work Pearson,

With the Panda multiple threads, I am trying to consolidate the best posts into one thread. That means that I go through a thread and cherry pick the best posts.

There are some absolutely brilliant posters here and some of the discussions are excellent. It is important that the casual reader can get access to these posts without having to wade through a sea of dross.

I am doing my best to catch the product pitchers but it just isn't possible for me to read every single post. We really do need your help to get rid of the spammers.

Whenever I spot a spammer I do my best at reporting them. I reported someone earlier for simply creating an account and copying a portion of a message and reposting it.

However, it is difficult sometimes to tell if someone is spamming.

The other day I saw a post in the reviews section for a product that I will not speak of, but to be honest the product was complete crap, I purchased it only so I could prove so.

Well right before I posted an honest review, someone else posted. They had exactly enough posts to post inside of the review section and gave the product an outstanding review..

I wanted to report it, but I didn't know if there would be a violation if I was "wrong" for doing so.

Anyways, I think you are doing an outstanding job. Keep up the great work and let's all work to get rid of these guys

P.S. It's funny.. I know we are against spamming, but there are a lot of people who promote spamming, even if it's indirect.

I am giving up trying to limit the Panda posts to one thread. I feel like King Canute and the sea. ;-).

Will continue to try for less emotive threads.

One thing I see that is certainly out of hand is how many threads turn into "p.." contest between people who have no clue to start with about the subject. We used to call them Trolls and they wasted a whole lot of bandwidth. I guess it's just a sign of the times, lots of angry folks out there looking for a slow moving target.

Another 200 posts deleted this morning. Some people never learn.

One current trend by the sig spammers is to start a new thread asking a beginner's question. If somebody asks such a question but it is obvious from their sig that they are much more experienced, don't waste your time answering it as the thread won't be there for long ;-)

That has been on of my pet peeves for a long time. Sadly, you get a bunch of
spam posts in reply, and some even attempt a real one. Crazy.

Then you see some sort of SEO expert link in their sig. Yeah. Like
they should be taking clients. And getting paid. But then, very popular
to promote spamming forums for "SEO" anyway. They practice what
they preach, I suppose.

So true. What amazes me is this: they know Warriors know better, so why they insist in coming here? They know pretty well their posts/threads will be deleted, so why lose time?

I mean, wouldn't be more effective to do something REALLY useful?

I've noticed a lot of copying recently...

For example, I post a reply helping someone out....
Moments later someone with less than 5 posts replies basically copying the points that I had made... frustrating.

I do try and report as many spam comments as I can but I worry sometimes that I might over do it! I can be a bit harsh!

That happens a lot, especially in the threads with a lot of replies. It gets annoying.

There are also people who create threads in the form of a question like, "What is SEO?" Then they come back a week later asking the same question. I just report anyone who asks anything that is already answered in the sticky posts.

So tired of this, I almost stopped coming to WF. It follows a similar pattern, somone in the Product Review section asks if anyone has tried 'mega super money blaster ninja' by Guru Somename, then a poster with 50 posts praises the product to no end in a style like it's a copyletter. I don't know who falls for this crap but I think it disrespects the forum and the members. It certainly insults my intelligence.

Get rid of the 60 seconds between reporting posts. It's annoying to have to wait.

It does seem to be a growing trend - in the WSO section and the product review section. These people have no shame. The problem I'vee been faced with is that some of these people uses aged accounts and not new accouts. I came accross one review the other day where the account had like 5 post but the account was like a year and half old. And the review starts off with "I never post reviews but this product is so good I had to make a post". Things like that make it a very tough call whether or not it's spam.

But keep up the good work pearsonbrown. Thanks for all the hard work.

I've been in this forum for quite a long time and I hate to hear from my friend that this forum has been attacked by pointless spammers.

On the other side, yes it's true (based on what I saw). So I want to help in cleaning this forum 'Cause I've learned a lot here. I think it's time to help one of the major sources of my knowledge about IM.

Would also be much better if you will ask suggestion from the senior warrior members before I suggest mine.
