Default Backlink Penalty Help

I had 1000 directory submissions done to four of my domains, and I didn't think 1k would have an effect.

However 2 days on...all pages have fallen from 1st page to page 3-4.

Any ideas on undoing this? Would getting the links removed work? or do I just give up the domains and start over?

Too early to tell for sure, 1000 would be a lot if it was a new site and they were indexed all at once.
The good thing about directory submissions is that they can take a while to get indexed and this looks natural for Google. I would mix the links up though, try some blog commenting and other services too.

8 month old sites they have plenty of links from the past that aren't directories.

I can't see them recovering

If you are only on page 2, don't worry, keep on building more backlinks. You might want to consider high PR profile links / blog comments for new site.

If that's a penalty, it's a pretty light one. No way I'd give up on that.

Have you changed your site in any other ways? Because in reality, 1000 backlinks is not that many by nowaday's standards (e.g. 10,000 scrapebox backlinks), so I don't think you would be penalized for too many links.

As such 1 k backlinks is not a huge count. It depends on how fast you got these backlinks....

If you are getting mass backlinks, this will make Google suspicious about your activities and you may lose you rankings.
