Hello Forum, I've recently started Hubpages and I am getting the feeling I would be better off investing my time writing & starting my own niche website. The HP folks are nice enough but.... Seems like in the long run, my own niche website would be much more lucrative versus all the time and energy needed to get established on Hubpages. What do you folks think ? Is this the way to go? Thanks in advance. |

I would say to do both and link them.

You should start your own site. Doing so will offer much more security in the long run because your content will be on your own property so if HubPages ever goes down you have nothing to worry about. Also if your site becomes a really money maker and you want to sell it for a big pay day you can. Just make sure you get a .com domain, they're worth the most. |

I agree with James. Having a dot.com puts more power into your hands. When you become a reputable page, you would want to be reputable on google. Having a .com reduces the reliability on hubpages. Of course, the flip site is hubpages would not require you to create a website and maintain it and allow you to leave that to them and focus your energy on just writing. |

Always start with your own website. You need to own your content. HP can shut you down at any time and for now reason.

Both is the best answer. I do hubpages and have several websites. More exposure the better.

I'd choose starting my very own website anytime of the day. There's nothing even more powerful than having a .com on your wing. Hubpages are only good for linkjuice and traffic generation.

In my opinion, you should start your own niche website. HP is cool but its importance is less than before and more importantly when you start your own website, you have more control on what you are doing. Christopher Chan |

Probably, there are some consequences which may arise in the future like sustainability of Hubpages... But, if you are planning to get your own website, you have to put in huge effort. 1.You have to invest most in developing a website. 2. You have to invest time and money in optimizing it. 3. There is no guarantee of getting high position even after optimizing it to the fullest |
