Default Underscore and hypen on URL

Hello Warriors,

I am planning to make a new website. My question is, which of the two is the best to use on urls is it with underscore or with hypen? Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

Matt

I agree, hyphens are more effective.

Hyphen, definitely.

I very rarely see anyone using underscores.

The url with underscore or with hyphens is a business decision. However, mostly hyphens are highly recommended. However, I think that search engines crawl both forms of url. So in today's search engines it simply doesn't matter which one you are using.

It's better to omit both hyphens and underscores from an seo point of view, because they both contribute to lessen the domain match with the keywords, but if any should be used, they are equivalent, and also equivalent to any other letter from your keyboard. From a readability point of view, hyphens are better.

Dashes are a better option for urls because use of underscores treat the entire url as one word even though they are made from two or three different words.

Really good proof and shows the difference between underscore and hyphen.

In reality it does impact, but you can overcompensate.

Same as using descriptive urls. Though it's recommended, but you can overcompensate in other areas.

If you have a choice though, than you should go the hyphen.
