Default 1st page, no traffic

Well, I started my first niche site about 4 months ago and it has finally gotten on the first page of Google for its keyword term. It is a very competitive "2-word" keyword. The first page is filled up with sites that are 5-10 year old sites with high prs. I am ranked 8th currently.

The keyword gets 3,400 exact match searches a month. I am however only seeing about 15-20 visitors a day.

This is really frustrating because...as it was my first venture into niche sites and seo....I believed that when i reach the first page I would see some heavy traffic.

I know that most of the traffic goes to the top 3 spots on the first page, but I was not expecting to see a mere 15-20 visitors a day for such a heavy competition keyword.

Even if it is on first page of Google, I doubt that I could receive a lot of money if I try and sell my site because of such low traffic.

What should I do now? Moving up the serps to 1-4 spots seems possible, but top 3 are wikipedia and .gov links.

Because I'm getting only 15-20 visitors a day, I'm lucky if I get 1 click on adsense. What a bummer

What I look for in the 1st page when I do KW research is, can I make top 3? Yes? Go for it. If not, I move on quickly. Get to the top 3 or go home. There's barely any traffic after the 3rd spot I've found.

My website is ranked #4, and I get 7% of the traffic for my keyword... You HAVE to be at the top!

You're getting the amount of traffic you should be getting. I'm not sure what you were expecting, but generally anywhere from 65-85% of the traffic goes to the top 3 sites.

I keep trying to get this message across to people. The first page of Google means nothing. The money is in the top 3.

The top of the food chain [I mean SERP] gets so much more traffic it's silly.

I have the same problem being on the top spot in Google for 2,700 exact searches for a gaming niche and making like 2 sales a month. Maybe 2,700 isn't enough searches?

Agree 100%. When I first started, I was way too focused of getting on page 1. But I've learned that page 1 means nothing unless you can make it to the top 3.

Top 3... or at the very least top 5. Just getting to page 1 doesn't mean anything, you are lucky to even get those 15 - 20 visitors at position 8.

Getting to page 1 does not guarantee massive flow of traffic. I do believe in the SEO saying that says. "It's either #1 or go home."

If you have first page position for your keyword despite it, if not getting traffic. Then I want to suggest for link building with blogs of same niche. It will help you to drive direct traffic it also help to improve your serp as well.

Firstly you should look over what Google is showing in its results. i mean there is sometimes Google showing past titles or under construction titles etc.. .This might cause problem in generating traffic

create a killer titles. Ask a question in your title/subtitle with your keyword.

When I got the first page I always change my title, basically its same with creating a sales copy, you need the first three sentences to grab people attention.

3.400 exact matches is already a decent number of searches, however, most of this search volumes will go to the first 3 or 5 websites in the search engine results. Try to get the top 3 spots and see the difference.
