Rank the homepage or specific pages?

Hey guys!

So I am building a website for my brother (he is a plumber) and said I would do some SEO for him.

Now the wordpress theme I am going to use means there will be very little writing on the homepage.

So is it better to link to the specific pages?

For example the main keyword is " 'City' Plumber ". So should I point links towards a page called " 'city plumber" or just rank the homepage?

Any help is greatly appreciated guys!!!!

use keyword 'city plumber' in home page title, and write a phrase for home page and use this keyword several 3-7 times then create backlinks to the main page.

When you do backlinks to the website you are promoting it will automatically rank your homepage.

It is important to rank first your homepage because it will be so easy to rank other pages when you got your homepage on top on search engines. That is from my experience.

It should point to the appropriate landing page. Don't just rely on one keyword and do proper keyword anaylsis. for each keyword there should be a proper landing page.

If City plumber is your main KW then really the home page should be the target. There is no harm in having landing pages for all other KW's though and if you think it will help you. The Home page will probably rank well regardless of lack of content if you get all your tags and linkbuilding right.
