Building backlinks to Linkedin profile? Will that help rank a certain keyword and move me up in SERP? THX in advance.

If by a certain keyword you mean your name then, yes it should help SERP. Sometimes people use this tactic to try to push a social media profile higher than an unfavorable search result for their name.
