Warren Buffet is patenting an SEO strategy!

I did a search but couldn't find this on the forum, yet.

Wow, this is pretty crazy, in my opinion. What is he up to? To what is he up?

Anyway, Warren Buffet's company has patented an SEO strategy based on the way it uses press releases.

I think, if that's all the patent is as described on that page, I don't see how this is patentable. A flowchart that doesn't really describe anything and isn't specific enough doesn't really patent anything, in my opinion.

If they were to use this a legal tool, I would think it'd be pretty easy to show that such techniques were widely known by many before Buffet's business "tried" to patent this.

In my opinion it's trying to take something that should be consigned more to the offline world and ineffectively bringing it to the SEO world. Stupid patent...

I can't call it an SEO strategy. It's really more of an article
spinner, but spinning press releases.

Have no idea why he would need this. He could make
a fortune getting paid from companies to just mention
them at a news conference. Those companies would
be instant hits, get high web searches, and huge
investors. Oh wait. He already does that.

The general public don't know much about the dynamic nature of SEO, but throw a whole lot of technical jargon in their face and tell them it has been patented and you have a crowd of interested people who want to jump in and use the next big thing.

First of all, Warren Buffett himself did not patent it, I doubt he has any idea what SEO is. Business Wire is the company that patented it, which happens to be owned by Berkshire Hathaway, whose CEO is Buffett. Buffett does not run the day-to-day operations at Business Wire though or any other of the 70 or so companies Berkshire Hathaway owns.

Yes, I realize that. That was pretty clear to me. Re-read the original post and you'll see that was pretty clear, already.

I just used Warren Buffet's name in the title of the thread as he's the head of the company, the figurehead.

That's interesting indeed, but really broad and unsure why something like that would need to be patented.

Reminds me of the algorithms behind Demand Media and how they created documents, titles and content requests based upon the Google CPC, search volume and other factors.

Totally ridiculous. If they have a software that does it, the patent can be acceptable. How can they patent a method which has been used in various forms by SEO experts.

Interesting, I used to write for Demand and wondered where the hell they got some of their crazy titles. Never actually read anything about their algorithms.
