| Hey guys, quick question regarding Alexa rank: My site has a rank of just over 1 million 1000, and according to my avg adsense impressions I'm only getting 25 to 30 impressions a day, that are not my own of course. Does this add up? Thanks. |

Alexa should not be used as a stats counter (if thats what your asking/saying). I also find that adsense does not actually reflect how many "impressions" a site gets. You should put google analytics on your site followed up by webalyzer or another similar stats program. This would give a better idea on whats going on with your site. |

| Here's the thing: Friend has a site in the 4mill Alexa range that gets more impressions than mine. How is this possible? Also if a page with adsense on it loads, that is counted as an impression. Quote:

I my personal experience I would not base anything off alexa. IMO it is not accurate. Also, I really dont know, but I dont think the alexa website information is not updated on a daily basis. This should show you that alexa is not an accurate way of determining a websites traffic rank. In the best situation I would consider alexa to give a very rough gestimate. |

"Anomalies" like that are very common. So common that they're not even really "anomalous", in fact. All that's being measured (and maybe not very reliably) is traffic comprising users of the Alexa Toolbar (who are mostly internet marketers). Nothing about customers or any other kind of traffic. It can't even pretend to be able to measure traffic accurately. ![]() In other words, call me a skepchick but for most people, most of the time, it's absolutely useless and we should forget and ignore it. (It may have some value to people selling websites, or selling advertising on websites, whose potential customers might be naive enough to take it seriously; that's all). And the sooner everyone ignores it, the sooner I can try to buy the domain-name from them. | |

Alexa means more once you get into the lower numbers. At anything over a few hundo, there is less rhyme and reason

Alexa is a good tool when looking at a website before you approach it for business. I found out that I related to the guy that started it. Still haven't met him

I personally says Alexa is a good measure to know where you stand between other websites, Yes, it is not a stat counter but it definitely say something about your website. My suggestion don't be concern about it now, your website is way behind. Concern about increasing you visitors, and your ranking will get better with time. |

Do you know anybody outside of IM that even knows what Alexa is? Alexa has NO TRAFFIC. Forget about it and focus on things that matter. |

As Alexa Smith pointed out, Alexa's data comes primarily from internet marketers Take this for an example... I have a website that receives ~5k unique visitors a day ....and its ranked above 100k in Alexa... Now, on the other hand, my internet marketing sites average 100/day Guess what the Alexa on those are? Sub 100k.... What I'm trying to say is this, Alexa ranking is useless |

So, how do we assess the traffic/value/ranking of a website that isn't yours (and you don't have access to Google Analytics data)? Say you have certain affiliates/directories you wish you pursue business with. How does one assess the value of that? |

Alexa only reads sites if their toolbar is installed in the users browser which is why it's inaccurate.
