Default Rewriting Meta Tags on old posts and pages?

I am helping a friend do some basic SEO on her Fabric eCommerce site..you know, keywords and optimize her titles and descriptions.

My question is, should we go back and rewrite her old titles and descriptions? Those pages have already been indexed.

I don't see why not. I've done so for some of my junk websites that were struck by Panda and the change was successfully noted and the sites were reindexed.

I've changed the Meta Description and some internal linking. Meta tags are useless in the eyes of the big G, but I'm pretty sure they aren't in the eyes of the other search engines.

My advice is go for it.

This isn't true.

Meta tags are still used by Google. If anything, they are the text that visitors see when you are listed in the Search Engines.

Keywords meta tag has less relavance but is still definitely usefull for Google.

To answer your question, yes re-write the meta tags and Google will come back and rank it accordingly.

Hope that helps

Thanks
Eleanor

Title tag and meta description are two of the most contributing factors to any site's conversation rate. If these are left not optimized, no business online is sure to enjoy enough ROI.. If the title and description doesn't live up the promise of the actual content, you already have a primary reason why you should reoptimize.

Matt discussed the topic of meta tags back in 2009, so I doubt they use them in the post-Panda period

Here's the link to the video:
