The Theme/Template is not reponsible for click through rates.

ANY theme will work fine, my preference is for Thesis these days because it's so easy to manipulate the Google Code. One very simple method is to use the Thesis Hooks via plugin which is free.

What matters is the ads are in places where people look, the ads match the reasons they came to your site in the first place.

I know this because I have been using Adsense since it first came out in 2003 and I have had millions of impressions to test.

I have tested the EXACT same template and colors in different niches and one site an pull as much as 5x the click through with the same template.

Over and over people think that the template is what matters... it is not. What matters is content, placement, and user intentions. Get those three right and you win.

I have tried the CTR and had some interesting results with it. However, a custom modified theme works best IMHO.

I use the thesis theme. A custom made simple design does the trick.

I get an average 12% click through rate.

I have several successful AdSense sites built with WordPress and I will tell you that some themes absolutely convert better than others but you will always have to test and tweak the design for the absolute best CTR because every niche/site will be a little different.

I've seen the best results with ads that match the color scheme of the site but still stands out which can be tricky. As far as ready made AdSense themes I like ClickBump better than CTR but don't use any of them because I always get better results with a customized theme made specifically for the site.

I'm actually selling one of my sites that uses a highly customized version of a theme I created for my all of my furniture niche sites. If you'd like to see the site and it's AdSense layout check out the auction at http://flippa.com/2656607

I agree for the most part, still a site theme does play a big role in Adsense.

I've seen plenty of crazy looking themes with bright colors, lot's of theme images, & backgrounds that have more colors than a rainbow (fail).

Simple & plain looking themes have always been my best performers with Adsense.

Agreed. A simple theme that doesn't annoy the visitor to the point of them leaving your site (by clicking back).

You want to show them the information and not distract them. Just have the info, and the adsense links.
