I think Forum posting is best for backlink. Here we needed the high quality to increase our site rank. And it will also depend on Dofollow or Nofollow. Dofollow backlink has a higher quality than Nofollow link. We can easily find the forum which are Dofollow instead blogs. Dofollow Blogs can't find easily and it is no more effective so Forum posting is better to create backlink.

Blog posting is certainly easier, while forum posting might require a little more effoort (having to register e.t.c)

Both are good but forum participation can benefit in less time where as blog posts will take time to get PR and for improving the page authority. It is good to prefer forums first and after that blog posts or article submissions.

Both are worth about the same IMO. Blog comments probably easier to get though.
