Default SEO Job Requirements

Hi,

Im am currently working full time as a SEO link builder for a company and
my question goes out to people with simular job

I am forced to write down and document every minute of my working day
witch makes my day a living hell because all the focus goes on counting hours
and it ruins the focus on the real job - Doing a good SEO job.

It this normal?

I know it quite irritating but you have to do this as the client pay on hours basis and you have to complete the hour within the time period. SEO is something that must be done with quality and quantity and maintaining the regular update and change is an important part of it.

Are you working for a large enterprise-level SEO firm or a smaller shop?

Excessive micro-management exists at the cost of real productivity and usually overall enjoyment of the job. Getting paid to take a dump, meh, it happens. Having said that, proper documentation of time spent billing for work, like link building, is the only way to establish trust in this business. Client's have the right to transparency.

I work for an agency that's under 75 employees and find a lot of genuine pleasure in the work day.

Yes, this is an SOP or a standard operating procedure for most SEO companies. Some even require screenshots. The clients are the ones paying their hard-earned cash so they just want to get their money's worth.

Maybe if you're hired on oDesk, but for any traditional SEO company with a brick and mortar, this is not the standard.

I am now taking on full-time SEO clients. PM me for more information.

I would quit that job ASAP.
