this is rant... a rant about how many "SEO bloggers" just do one thing: follow other A+ Bloggers. It seems that they all repeat the same story - the same posts - the same dramas. A few weeks ago SEOmoz posted how Article Marketing was the garbage of the internet... and how Article Marketing simply didn't help any SEO strategy. (The same way as blog commenting, directory submission... what's next? Ah yes... Press Releases is next ) But clearly, once you get that type of posts... you get automatic army of SEO-lambs that re-tweet and agree. But not one single person stops to TEST their theories. That's what I like of this forum... people here have realized that you need to TEST and then TALk instead of blog about new rules and laws that now rule the SEO world. So please.... no more "theories" and instead DATA to proof that A or B doesn't work any more in SEO. |

I agree. Most of the SEO tips you see will be a rehashed articles of some A listed site. Testing is the only way to see what works. This does need some planning, patience and of course money.

I adore SEO gurus but I tend not to follow their foot steps. I have my own style.

Just don't believe what so called "seo gurus" say. Instead use their theories as reference only and develop your own ideas.. Thats what I do now. After much testing and tracking, I have developed my own "SEO recipe" for now. When it fails to deliver someday, then I will be going back to the drawing board to come up with new strategies. Above all, just ignore what Matt Cutts have to say. If you think something works in SEO, test it yourself and conclude before blindly following any other's words.. Oh, Am I boring too much ?? ok then stopping. |

SEOmoz has never been correct with anything they've ever said in my opinion. They are scared of everything and their assessments seem to be purely opinion. If you read their blog they'll having you believing nothing works anymore.

lol. Guys they are not in the IM niche with long tail product and affiliate keywords. Sorry but articles directories do NOT work well in many mainline serps, As the recent Panda change have indicated the links have to get better or you are going to get bit by one of these updates You guys are just sticking your heads in the sand. Theres a whole SEO world out there that is talking about going after really good and high traffic terms. |

this is exactly why SEO is (still) a difficult to understand (fully!) market/business. It is simply to hard to test out theories for most people, mainly because there are thousands of factors that have influence on your ranking. That's why many people resort to 'gut feelings' or think of what they think 'would make sense'.. SEO is really about experimenting and discovering what works and build on that. Good starting point is the experience of others, and there it becomes a bit difficult, cause who do you trust/believe/etc.? |

I agree with Mie on this one...seomoz is geared towards real brands and big company seo...they DO NOT spam article directories. That's something left for the affiliate marketing world...why? Well, because most of the 5 page emd splogs are just spammed to death with low quality links.

| Agreed!!! You know what works by testing and seeing real results, SEO isn't as hard as people make out. Just a little bit of trial and error, results will come to those who try!

what the main problem goes here..the person who even test those ways and found it worst would fear to claim that its wrong because of such big names saying that its right and I dont think this should happen because people surfing the web wants best and corrected information and if such big names are going to provide them with such filthy stuff..the web seems to be no more usefull...

Testing is the only way that you will find out if anything is going to work. I would suggest that anyone that is new here do a quick search in the forum for test and case study and you will find quite a bit of information that people have shared on their testing that they completed. SEO is not the same for every site. Every keyword is different and every page is different. Every time you do anything to a site you should mark it down and follow it to see what happened in return. This will give you a great outline as to what is and what is not working.

Bottom-line is that you can admire them, take some tips from them. But entirely following them every step in the road is oh-so wrong. Why not make your own style? A copy cat will always be a copycat.

I completely agree. The SEO game is changing very often, that's true. But it's not the platform that makes a link valuable or not. I remember when people said profile links don't help anymore. I am proud to say even today I see good results from using them. They come from a good PR domain, and are mixed with other types of links. So Yes people trust without testing and just lower the resources they can use. I have tested those theories, I get awesome results from article directories. ![]() Matt Cutts is doing what he's supposed to - trying to get people not to abuse some link sources. That doesn't mean he's honest, it just means he's trying to use this "authority" to get the job done easier. |

The spreading of info that has no real proof or testing behind is bad, especially for newbies who are just starting out and could pass up some valid tactics because Matt Cutts and his followers did not approve it. Learning through testing is the best way to go. Yes there are some amazing threads in WF that teach you a lot, but testing tactics yourself is the best way to learn and find the success. |

For long tailed keywords, it definitely works. For very competitive keywords, it CAN work, but why waste the time and energy for article links when it would literally take thousands. It does seem that people on here think their SEO approach to mid level competition or long tailed keywords is the same as heavy competition. Completely different plans there. | |
