Arrow Want to change my domain name will that hurt my google ranking?

Hello guys so I am interested in changing my domain. Will it hurt if I redirect my website to my new domain name?

For example.

www.fakewebsite.com

is my current website and I want to start using

fakewebsites.com: The Best Search Links on the Net

I just have the domain ownership right but will still keep the same host. Can I redirect both domain names to one website without getting punished in google?

Hi, Not quite sure what you mean as I'm quite new too.

But I did see something in google's tools for change of address for a domain name. Doubt that is what you want, but maybe that helps?

yeah..It will affect your ranking because you will lose all backlinks and indexed pages...and for redirection there is no punishment...but why you want to do so..if its only about the title than its ok but if really it is about domain than..why??what a 's' can make difference??

If you dont want your Rankings to hurt, then use a 404 Redirect.

Think of it this way...

What if CocaCola changed their name to CocaBola and moved all of their corporate offices from the USA to Mexico at the same time?

Would all of their mail get to them? Would people looking for their offices find them? Putting up a sign in the door which says we've moved and dropping the "change of address form" off at the post office does not guarantee effective delivery.

Expect a change in rankings, traffic, and the number of broken links you are dealing with.

If there is a compelling reason to change from FakeWebsite to FakeWebsites, then sure, go ahead...

But...Possibly I'm misunderstanding your question, too... In some ways you sound like you are just talking about changing your site title and description, which would have very little effect, and usually positive if the description and title are more targeted.

This will cause harm to your rankings no doubt. But If you do so make sure you set 301 redirect so you can get the traffic of your old website.

You can use a .htaccess 301 domain redirect to achieve this. Of course there will be a loss in traffic/rankings because your site is (A) loosing all the backlinks it had on the old domain & (B) getting re-indexed in the search engines.

Here is a 301 domain redirect code to place in your .htaccess file...
Code:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.fakewebsites.com/$1 [R=301,L]
Note: This only works for Linux servers utilizing Apache with the mod-rewrite feature enabled.

Hi mate,
Definitely you will loose your rank with the new domain. Because you will loose your back links with the old Domain. You need to create links to your new domain.
And it will take some time to get good Pr and Good alexa ranking.
