When I do KW research, I see that some of the top few sites are ebay, amazon, best buy etc sites. I followed most amazon WSO courses that says these are easily beatable and can be ignored when determining a KW competition. But then again recently there were some course that i read that says that these sites are hard to outrank abd shud any KW with these sites on top will have a hard time ranking... any thoughts from experienced marketers on these. All info much appreciated. Thank you...

I don't count on outranking them organically but I will still go after that KW with Adwords and every other way possible to get traffic.

I have trouble outranking Amazon. I find them to be in the top ranking spots for most of my item keywords for my "general" items. For example "Blue Power Ranger Figure" Outranking eBay BINs never seems to be too much of an issue. When it comes to smaller niche items, I can usually outrank Amazon, eBay, iOffer, Bonanza, etc.

Of course it is hard to outrank them. They have thousands of visitors daily and are supreme expert sites.

It depends on several factors If you are going for a generic term then it will be more difficult, however if you focus on a specific products, Amazon or any other shopping site is not that difficult outrank. In fact if I find a product and Amazon that is in #1 spot and I don't see any other internet Marketer with a site on there, I get excited because I know I can outrank Amazon. Amazon seem to get a lot of love from Google for top placement but when you do your research you will see they have hardly any back links for the product in question and are very poorly optimized and seem to be there just because the big G is being nice to them. All you have to do to outrank Amazon for a specific product is build your site with good on page SEO add great keyword rich content and then build anchored back links on quality sites and you will for sure give them a challenge for their spot. Also ALWAYS use something like pretty links and do no follow links as not to be giving Amazon any love from your sites or anchored back links from your own site to the product page as that is shooting yourself in the foot. I am sure many of my fellow Amazon Associates will agree with me when I say don't be scared of Amazon if you see them in top spot. Obviously all this depends on the competition of the product but i have many many sites that I am above Amazon. Kickin it on Amazon Gaz Cooper Amz Training Academy |

Not really. What's hard to outrank is . . . wikipedia. I sometimes saw Amazon in my search result, but not eBay, I never. In fact if I wanted to search something from eBay via Google, I needed to use "site:ebay.com". |

It's not hard at all. Just remember that you're trying to outrank a page, not a website. If their page isn't as well optimized as yours for that keyword then you're in with a chance. It will vary from keyword to keyword but don't be put off by authority sites, just analyze them the same way you would any other competitor. |
