I was doing some brainstorming with Google Keyword Tool open and found some exact match keywords with high CPC ($5.00+) and very high traffic (300,000 p/month+). I ran the keywords through Market Samurai and, sure enough, the Top 10 are pretty much owned for a long time to come. Then I go to thinking....with that high of a search volume, some percentage of it has to filter down to the second page. If the second page gleans a mere 5% of the 300,000 searches p/month, that would be 15,000 p/month. I'm thinking that level of traffic might have some value at $5.00 p/click or more. Of course, there could be something that I'm not seeing. Like...the behavior of people who continue to the second page translates into their clicks only being paid out at .20 cents or something. On the ohter hand, maybe it's the other way around and the ardent searchers is worth $7.50 p/click...who knows? Anyway....is anyone making money on high-search volume stuff by working to the second page even if the first pages isn't realistically feasable? |

ive never ever ever thought being on any other page apart from page 1 was worth it but one of my new sites is ranking for the keyword christmas lol its not on the first page for sure of course i cant give too much info away but im getting a boat load of traffic from it and im not even in the top 20 and some of the traffic converts too generally though anything apart from page 1 is not really worth thinking about, the traffic may still convert but you just wont get a lot of it generally unless your at least on page 1 paul |

I have a site ranking at #6 for a keyword that gets 135k+ monthly searches a month. And guess what, I'm getting only 60-90 UVs from that. | |

Let me start and say I do not use Adsense as an earner. But I can answer your question and the simple answer is...no! Now don't get me wrong of course some people make money on the second page but they are getting the dregs of the searchers. Think about it if you were searching and started to look at the second page then you have either not found what you want (most people just do another search), they are not buyers (could be researching competition, knowledge etc). So there will be some very very small bits of money to be made but that's it. What you quite often find if it is a really difficult niche and you get to page 2 is that some longer keywords that you didn't even target will get you traffic, so this could be where the money comes from. So my advice is to look for keywords in the same niche that are long tail with good monthly searches and go for them. |

I would go for it. It will really depend on the keyword and the people doing the searched on whether or not they go to the second page. With 300000 searches a month it might be worth it. even if you can make 5 dollars a day it would be worth as long as it isnt that hard to get there. Plus if you build your site right you will get long tail traffic as well. The best thing to do is take action and build it. Research a few other keywords that are not as difficult to reach the 1st page and just start backlinking. |

He Paul....what's a "boat load"? The keyword I'm looking into has similar search figures as Christmas...so I'm wondering if we're talking 200 hits p/day or 2,000 hits p/day...just for reference. |

Page 1 or work on something else until you can get to page 1. A better strategy might be to try for an easier term that uses that keyword. For the Christmas example, try ranking for "christmas presents under 10 dollars for men", then when you are on page one start backlinking for "christmas presents for men", then target "christmas presents" and on up. My site gets 20 visits a day for the word "hat", yet I don't rank in the top 200 in a Google text search. No, 20 people a day aren't clicking through 20 Google pages just to find my site which is really irrelevant to what they are looking for. Keep in mind folks, when buying backlinks don't settle for any of those silly packages that require 4/5/6 keywords, then they rank the easiest keyword in the list. If you have a keyword you want to rank for in the SERPs, don't settle for less. |

@ the expert - at first i was getting around 100 per day but now its more like 250 - 350 a day @ electron plumber - i am def getting a lot of traffic from the keyword christmas and according to my google webmaster im ranking too and it is in the top 50. ive checked my host and google analytics and im def being found for it. i have lots of long tail articles though so thats why im maybe getting picked up for the keyword christmas now. also the keyword christmas is getting searched more and more as xmas gets closer, so my traffic is actually getting better each week. Its not a great keyword as its broad how ever im not going to complain, some are buyers im not looking to much into things at the moment though, so will just keep uploading content and building links and see how things go over the next couple of months thanks paul |

For me second page hasnt worked, even with high traffic keywords, there has been a click/sale or two, but I have had better success with very low traffic keywords and owning the #1 spot.

The money spots are above the fold on page 1. You will only get crumbs on page 2 even for high volume keywords.

Yes, I have a few Amazon sites that have made a bit being on the second page for my target keyword. Of course, they may be getting longtail traffic instead of the main keyword, but they do earn.

Well even if there is money you have to analyze whether its enough for the efforts you have put in or not ? Try to build links and improve ranking or just sell the site and move onto a project you can make money with.

Definitely disagree about the top 3 spots only. Sure you'll get a lot more, but you definitely get plenty of traffic from the rest of the first page if you've got a good keyword. I accidentally ranked for a 10k keyword at rank 8 or so and I was getting more from that than the 2k keyword I was ranked 3rd for. |
