Default Help Understanding Google Webmaster Tools

I'm a bit confused over the Google Webmaster Tools. Under the "Search Queries" tab, I see a list of various search terms and phrases. These are search queries for which a page from my site has shown up in the SERPs. One of the columns shows the "Avg Position". This is the average position of the page in the SERPs.

However, when I enter that query into Google, my site or page doesn't show up anywhere. I've checked through various SERP rank checkers and no pages show up in the first 1000 results. Yet, Google Webmaster Tools show a page in my site showing up at an average position of 31.

Any ideas or insights?

Thanks

GWT (Google Webmaster Tools) is very slow & outdated when reporting most data from the SERPs.

I agree with you. I am new to G webmaster tools but I have noticed that it was very outdated and the reports were not accurate.
