Do you guys put any stock in the "link value" field with SEO Spyglass? It seems like, for the most part, my dofollow links have zero link value or close to it, where some of the nofollow links have crazy value. For example, I have a couple of Wikipedia links that are obviously nofollow, with pretty good link value. Every Warrior Forum link I have is showing as zero value. I get traffic from wiki, so don't really care what the value is, but the point remains. Does link value mean anything to you guys? |

If it's a matter of judging a links value in the eyes of Spyglass or my own intuition, I'll pick myself 9/10 times. Some of Spyglass' link metrics are a little obscure, and I've seen plenty of examples of decent links that were close to 0 based on their criteria. Not a bad tool for being free, but not the holy grail by any means. |

I never bother looking at the link value(I think there is no real science behind it). I usually look for pr and then let my outsourcers look at the urls manually in order to find the sites that are not spammed to death and open for backlinking. |

Basically that link value field is looking at the PR of the page the backlink is on and how many outgoing backlinks are on that page. Obviously the higher number of backlinks, the lower the value of each link will be. That is why you might have a PR 4 link that is dofollow and you think it is great, but SpyGlass sees those 360 outgoing backlinks on that page and discredits the value of the link, rightly so. So is there any value in the exact number it is giving you? Probably not. However, I do think there is value in what it is trying to tell you. Pages that have already been spammed to death, no matter if they are dofollow and have a high PR, provide virtually worthless backlinks. |

I totally second Mike's explanations. Straight from SEO SpyGlass support page: Link Value - shows how much PageRank the page may potentially pass with a link. Roughly, the higher PageRank and the fewer outgoing links, the higher the link value. I guess I you need to see some sort of a formula breaking down link value, ask the provider directly but the logic is pretty clear imo |

Thanks guys. Sort of along the lines of what I was thinking about, I guess, but now I have a better idea about why. Thanks! |
