Traffic will not come from the domain name alone, especially if no one is searching for that particular keyword.

If you are looking for a domain name to build a brand around, the simpler the domain name the better. Both of your examples are kind of "spammy".

WebbLegend

Or something along those lines would be an area to explore.

OK, so keep the domain short etc. got it.

if the domain has 8000+ search volume a month for the exact domain and low competition on google adwords analytics....is this good?

The overall "niche" has 246,000 monthly searches

The 'low competition' coupled with low search interest throws up a red flag.

low competition on google adwords
Adword Competition is about what the people paying for advertising are willing to pay. In essence you want high Adword competition. This will result in a high payout per click for you.

On another note, the domain or "keyword" might have high traffic but if the user intent behind the keyword isn't there, the keyword could be useless. Or at the very least really difficult to monetize.

The one without the hyphens always.

TheLegendMichaelWebb is another option

To answer your question, the first one is better without the dashes. EMDs are great for SEO but on site content will always be key for the search engines.

thanks for your advice.

Domain name registered.

went very short in the end.

equivalent of W-legend

the exact as typed domain has the figures stated above, the keywords i will be targeting are longer and didnt look right strung together in a domain.

I won't be promoting adwords on the site.

It all depends on your long term plans and marketing of the site.

From a purely SEO perspective having the exact keyword with no spaces is the best way to go.

However, if its eventually going to be the kind of site you hope people return to or remember then you need compromise for something a bit simpler.

If you are going to build a large site, a good brand name would still be the best. If you will notice, websites like Amazon, e-bay, and other giants in online marketing have not used EMDs.

They tend to not include their keywords in their domain names but still ranks very high in search engines. Another thing is, branded names cannot easily be forgotten.

So I would suggest you to make it simpler....

I would also go for "webblegend" or you can simply go for "michaelwebb". So easy to remember.

Google webmaster tools is one of the best for Google itself. They tell you exactly how your ranking. You can't get more direct. The only downside is that isn't real time.

This is choice many of us have to make for new sites. In the past, it was better to use the keywords in the domain - I believe it will not help with SEO so much now. You can see what Matt Cutts had to say by looking on youtube for "matt cutts keywords in a domain". (i would put the link, but not enough posts to put link here). I hope this helps!
