Default Google Changes Search Algorithm...Another Reason For Fresh Content

Google Changes Search Algorithm, Trying to Make Results More Timely - NYTimes.com

Just saw this story appear on the wires.

Google is battling against Facebook and for good reason. So much data and service is going through Facebook now especially traffic-wise, that Facebook is turning into a search engine by default and a powerful one too. Because FB has such on time responses people get news and other data in real time.

This is why fresh info is a must nowadays. Relevant data and copy to meet the demands.

If Facebook does go into the search engine market there's going to be one battle that'll change the face of the internet.

Facebook is proving that fresh is best. We get news and updates from important events via Facebook far faster than mainstream news. Also people put out links to useful products on their Facebook feeds. You put up one useful link on your feed and the next thing you know it's all over the web. I did that recently with something that totally sent the stats of one of my websites through the roof. I could literally sit here and do that one trick and make money.

I'm sure Google realizes that others are doing the same thing and not using their services. Google Plus was a great idea but they made it too complicated to operate.

Now Facebook is going to take the high ground.

Before everyone rushes out and starts adding loads of new content to a site (which is never a bad thing, but can be costly if done without a real purpose), let's see how this pans out.

It may be that this update only affects trending keywords, celeb gossip, news stories, yearly events etc and doesn't touch "normal" keywords.

Also, don't confuse the fact that this update is looking for "fresh" content as the same thing as it looking for "higher quality" content. Google is going to have a big task on its hands trying to keep out spammers who can easily create loads of fresh content that looks natural to a spider.

Given that Google is trying to press Facebook with G+, I for one, would love to see FB squash them.

Had enough of Google's BS.

Yeah, I think we all saw that coming, but one thing for sure to me, I would love Facebook to completely destroy Google.

Google is simply the biggest manipulating bastard I've ever seen :P LOL joking.

Wish this battle between them two turns out to our advantage as internet marketers

Wicked, no wonder one of my recent articles overthrew a bunch of old, yet well backlinked specific-keyword websites and 1st-paged yesterday :O

It would be interesting to see FB taking out Google if they decide to create their own Search Engine. Then next thing you know a Facebook phone

It upsets the applecart of standard SEO but it increases the value of quality original content and presentations.

I can see where this is going. We're gonna see a new paradigm being born and it should bring about some major changes in strategy. It was bound to happen. People just get sick of getting irrelevant search results and hype.

People don't have the time to waste on bs.

I think this has all come about due to blogging which evolved into social networking which has now evolved into something else and we're seeing it.

When anything new comes along it's founded on something solid. If it makes money you'll see the scammers pile in, monopolize it, foul it all up and then something ethical emerges to wipe out the crud.

Knowledge and experience are of great value on the web. People know it now and when ethical things take root, prosperity will bear fruit.

You are too cool and cute!

I have three FB friends, and my younger sister on FB who have idiotic traffic to their FB pages with subscribers to their feeds. All of them did it by accident. It was "what" they were posting and the fact the posts were being shared like wildfire is what does it. None of them are IM savvy but I just followed their lead and discovered a gold mine. One of them has over 180,000 subscribers that she can feed stuff to. Every time she posts something all 180,000 subscribers know about it. They 'share' her posts. It's insane. Wish I had thought of her niche and I can if I use my skills of illustration.

With that kind of loyalty you don't need to submit to Google to get traffic because FB does it for you and so do all the people who 'share' what you post. I wrote an article for a client's site this past week that went viral just from FB alone. I put up ONE link to the article and discovered another gold mine. You almost had to beat the traffic off with a stick.

I have pals with huge traffic sites. None are IM savvy but a few and I'm trying to teach them. They don't need Google and have millions of subscribers to their newsletters. It is SICK how much traffic they get and will destroy your servers if they link to you. If you have an FB page that they link to, you RULE. I had several pals link to articles I wrote and the traffic was insane again. Each was tied in with FB. It was like push button Jetsons money.

People go to Facebook for answers because you can friend people who are experts in like every field. If your friend's friend's friend is a rocket scientist you can ask them a question and get an answer and multiple replies.

Who needs the other answer sites when you can ask a Nobel Prize winning scientist who you "liked" or is the second cousin twice removed of your old high school friend's second wife? No searches, just link up, like, friend, and you're good to go.

Google had better think fast. IMers had better get the best quality fresh content they can find and fast.

You people are mixing stuff up.

Who gives a rip about what people post on facebook?

Seriously, like I need a search engine to tell me?

I gag on the crap on facebook. Yeah sure. Facebook creating
a search engine. Sure. I just need a way to search for what
Aunt Annie's next door neighbor's dog is chewing on...or what
day Taco Bell is giving out free meatless tacos....

Come on people, get a grip on reality. Google is just
tweaking the search results to guess if people are looking for
current news and trends. Has nothing to do with spun content,
new content, facebook, or anything else!

Right now the biggest trend is Mariah Yeater. Now, how many
of you have an adsense site on her?

Or maybe you are like me. You don't give a rat's behind about Mariah Yeater.
Or what people on facebook are saying.

I cringe when I think of all the threads now that are now being
started about this topic. Like WF needs more of this stuff.

. I totally agree. There is so much senseless information on Facebook, do you really want it as a search engine?

Well last time we looked Facebook had damn near a billion people using it. That would be useful if you wanted to start a search engine with all those opt-in users with a search engine in-built option. They sure wouldn't run out of people willing to advertise.

I like the change. And I don't think it's going to be as massive as people think.

What I DO hope is that it will be easier to outrank the 10 year old "authority" site that is ranking purely because it's aged and has a mountain of backlinks. As long as your content is fresher and unique, I think it'd be fair if you got a little bit of a boost.

I'm also guessing that video sites, press releases, forums, etc, will get a little boost since they're frequently updated.

All speculation, but I can see Google going in this direction.

I think you're spot on. I hope they get rid of the sites with needless backlinks that are structured that way to beat the competition. I know it's harsh but even I get tired of searching for something and having page after page of nonsense pop up. Time is money. Wasting time searching sucks.

I doubt Google is going anywhere, most industries have leaders... meaning plural. So there is always room for another search provider. Any way you slice or dice it the algorithms are probably going to be similar to ranking will not change very much, just slightly.
