This past month I've been doing lots of test on ranking Youtube videos on Goog primarily for local clients. Today while checking on some rankings I noticed they've moved the thumbnail image of the video to the far "left" of the results. This is actually what Yahoo's done with the videos that rank on their engine. Totally understandable since Yahoo does not benefit if people jump over to youtube from Yahoo. Why contribute to giving Goog anymore market share so it makes sense. I find it interesting that Goog would display video results like this as they benefit regardless. I'm sure this will have at least some affect on click thru rates on videos coming from Good search. Interesting to see if it's a temporary change, testing, or possibly even a minor glitch which I highly doubt. |

Easier for me to read it on the far left. I look at the image first and use that to decide if I'll waste my time on the text. When it's on the far right I have to start on the right then go left to read, more work. Stef |

Not long after I posted this, maybe 2 hours, the video display results had returned back to the left. LOL HOWEVER Take a look at how "local results" almost dominate the top fold of the page today. Well at least at this moment in time.

Well this might suck! I've been taking advantage of that thumbnail on the left side of the SERPs, & has a great CTR. I don't even use it for videos (lol) I use it for flash galleries. I haven't seen the video thumbnail show up on the right side of the SERPs yet. I wonder If that positioning will screw up the CTR? See the video thumbnail heat map 1/2 way down the page, here, the position does work well. |

Well as I stated in my update it seems as though it was temporary or fluke as today vid images are back to normal on the left. If I'd not taken a screen capture of what I saw I'd thought I was going crazy. Have your flash galleries been affected by any recent changes? There's a WP software that I had my eye on that does goog vid images or something that uses the video site map but I've found ALL the rankings using video images have all dropped completely out site. These are not my sites using the method that ranked just many I'd been watching.

The thing is, about a month or two later, that change is permanent. I haven't noticed any changes in traffic yet, maybe they are rolling this out a little at a time?
