How can I get more inbound links to my site using content? What specific things I should consider when writing content that it will attract more visitors and subsequently bring in more inbound links?

Write proper articles [seo friendly, keywords targetted] , submit the spin version of your content a week after putting on your wesbite.
submit articles, press releases to the articles directories and PR submission directories and see the traffic rolling on.

You can also use google docs and scribd.com to get good traffic

Once you added the content on your site
submit to social bookmarking site
submit to social news/story site
Submit to twitter/facebook
prepare a presentation share site ( here you get the list WeBuildLink.com - Presentation Sharing Sites List)

From the presentation create a video and submit it to video sharing site ( here is the list Video Sharing Site List)

Try to create squidoo and hub pages. That will definitely drive traffic for your website..
