Default SEO makes no sense sometimes!

I've a site, 6 months old... onpage seo, spot on. Lots of backlinks... pr 3-5.

Then I dissapear from the rankings for 2 weeks for my main 3 keywords... which are in my url.

I'm back now, hanging around page 2 and 3... so, there's hope.

Thing is... there's a site that's on page 1 for almost all my targeted keywords...

I head over to market samurai to investigate... their onpage seo is solid, but the have only 20, pr 0 backlinks!

wtf?

I was under the impression that an EMD and backlinks from high pr sites... and .edu & .gov sites was the way to go...

Google just did another big update about a week ago and seems to be placing more and more value on actual content quality these days. The traffic for my site went up after the update and has stayed there. I don't even do backlinking anymore. It just happens naturally. I can write a blog post or product review, and it will start getting traffic in a day and get traffic from referral sites I didn't know existed. It's pretty cool.

Good luck,
Joey

Sites will continue to bounce around the first 12 months, that's natural. As to the other site having just a few backlinks, well, we don't really know the whole story because there's no real way to find all the actual backlinks. I had a site with over 4,000 backlinks and only 150 showed up in the tools. Keep linking and adding good quality content.

If the Panda got him he wouldn't be on page 2 & 3, he would be out of sight.

I have decided to stop with micro niche sites. While they were once an easy fix, I believe it has become tipping point. The MFA bubble is about to burst.

Time to build good looking sites that don't rely on adsense and also have an interactive social media component, plus also looking at other ways to gain traffic besides big G. PPC, email marketing, facebook, twitter, etc.

There are hundreds of ranking criteria. Some of the more obvious things that come to mind are:

1. How much content does each site have?
2. How much off-theme content does each site have?
3. How old is the other site? Yours is only 6 months old, it's bound to bounce around.
4. Are the links you have from sites with a similar or dissimilar theme to yours? How about your competitor?

lol! and don't forget - just when you think you have it sorted the rules will all change again

Welcome to SEO. It might not cost money but it sure gives you the run-around at times
