need help getting local site ranked

I need help getting a local website seen on first page of google for this search term:

"car wash toledo"

I have actually purchased this very domain name and started building a site using a site wizard with hostgator.

i know more how to do email newsletter, and that is what this business owner wants, but he also needs to get his website seen and I don't know totally how to do that. And I am not getting paid that much, so it kind of needs to be the simplest route....

Hi Milkpitcher, welcome to the Warriorforum.

Ranking local websites, is usually easy, because there is less competition.

First of all, doing a search for "car wash toledo" brings back a list of what's called local results. To have a chance of appearing in local results, you have to register with Google places at: www.google.com/placesforbusiness

Then under that, you have the organic results. To rank here, you need to do search engine optimisation.

Two sides to it, onsite and offsite.

You should do a little research. It's difficult to give you it all in a nutshell. How much do you already know?

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you do not know how to rank a site locally in search engines, why are you taking someone's money to do it? That just seems wrong.
