Heres a question ive always thought of but never been able to test, to rank for a long tail keyword would you prefer to use a sub-page of an old pr4-5 domain, or a brand new exact match domain? (assuming on-page SEO was all done) |

For a genuine long tail keyword then definitely the subpage, you can place an anchor text link on the site's homepage as well to help it too.

Personally, I think any site that solely targets a long tail keyword (example: Hand Made Yellow Widgets ) would be what Google terms a thin site. And with the way Panda is rolling out, it'll eventually get hit. If not by Panda, then something else. It is best to create either or use established site with subpages. Using my example, your site/domain should be about widgets or hand made widgets and NOT just hand made yellow widgets. |
