Default Question on SEO & Domain Names

Hello,

I'm a total newbie and have just gotten started with internet marketing. I purchased a domain name with the purpose of building a brand around it, without taking into account SEO. I plan to build various blogs in different niches, but without the domain name I've chosen being optimized, I think I may have trouble with ranking.

Is there a work around for this (i.e., subdomain or subdirectory use) or should I just buy a keyword specific domain name instead? If so, should I just park my original domain name?

I don't know if I'm making sense, but help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The domain name isn't a silver bullet, Don't get me wrong it can help rankings but its not "needed".

You basically need to decide if you want to do the extra work to get your site ranking to compensate for it not being a keyword rich domain.

Thanks guys!

I was really nervous about that.

I appreciate you.

A few more questions:

When I build my blog for SEO, if everything (blog posts, articles, web 2.0, press releases) points to my blog home page, how will I get people to my money site? Should my blog homepage be my target page or should my money site be my target page? If my money site is my target page, what do I do with my blog homepage?

This is the breakdown I've seen:

Target page
|
Blog, PR, Web 2.0, Articles
|
Other backlinks

Hope this makes sense.

Thx.

You would want to try to point links to both where it's relevant.
