An authority site is a site that Google trusts. It can be trusted and an "expert" in a niche or more generic like "wikipedia".

many site between PR4 -PR9 ....You dont need any one to show you this site you come across them every day .use SEOQUAKE A RANK checker on your firfox it will show you all highly rank site when ever you are searching ..so when you see them dont just let them go do something

You can easily outflank Wikipedia. They get all the head terms, but you can easily get the longtail terms they aren't ranking for.
