Default Press Releases - Do you pay for distribution?

Nowadays how do you distribute your PRs?

I was looking to get a PR professionally written and found out that they also offer a service to submit it manually to a bunch of high quality sites and promise good results. It cost about 60$ to add the manual submission option (total 92,75$; 99centarticles .com) Is this worth it? I like to pay if I know I'm saving a lot of time however I understand there might be cheaper and better ways of doing this.

I'm pretty much new to press releases, just trying to understand what NOT to do . I'm sure someone will point out that I'm about to get raped at this price lol..

I used to pay for Press Releases- both the copywriting and delivery. But I think something changed with Google Update, as the links from Press Releases seem to have lost their importance.

I might be wrong but it looks like Google is not very keen on them any more.

Time to find other traffic sources before Google change everything It seems so unfair they can change all and everything overnight, the world of monopoly..

Guys, let me straighten something out here -

Press Release - A story that is taken to the media and pitched to them in the form of a written proposal, to nudge them to run a story in a newspaper, on the radio, on television or as part of their online coverage.

Something submitted to the search engines to get indexed, get backlinks and to be re-posted by engines is NOT a press release. I suppose it should be called a 'Search Engine Release'.

I own a press release writing and distribution company. Our clients get their stories taken to highly targeted journalist's inboxes and fax machines. We'll then follow up with phone calls, etc - and push them to run a story. All for a hundred bucks.

Journalists do NOT go trawling free press release sites looking for stories. These sites are nothing more than article re-publishers....

...and that will do nothing to help your media relations!

I just wanted to iron that fact out - as the whole concept of press releases has been glossed over thanks to the modern internet.

Yeah I've always thought the "press releases" that us IM'ers distribute are far from what a real press release is.

I just used prlog dot org. Yes, just one press release website.

- write a good press release with real news in it

- its nearing the end of the year and its a good time for product websites to release "best of" awards/lists so you can more easily write a press release on "top gaming laptops 2011 - consumers choice top list" or something of the sort

- tweet it. find the manufacturers/producers twitter and tweet them directly. example tweet where imgmodels is the twitter name of the company/manufacturer

@imgmodels congrats on top action figures 2011 website fan choice award #actionfigures (insert press relese link here)

- the winners will retweet it and you will get traffic

- go on their facebook, website forum, etc and do the same

- this assumes that you genuinely like their product

So as you can see it's not just the press release by itself. It can be a way to connect with other people in your niche and get traffic.

Press releases are not quite effective in every niche. Also not every press release works well unless you go for quality ones like PRWeb. If you have decided to go for PR distribution then it will be better to choose ( writing + submission ) both in the same package.
