Default High PR but lower rank

My site is higher PR as compared to another site but lower in SERP. My site is PR3 but the competitor's is PR0. How can I overcome that?

A higher PR doesn't guarantee rankings. PR is just a measure of the quality of incoming links. It doesn't take into account the anchor text used or what keywords are being targeted.

The other site probably has far better links than you in reference to the keyword in question.

exactly...check the quantity of high quality unique linking root domains that contain a link employing the keywords as the exact anchor text - this is a very important factor.

Page Rank does not give you the SERP or traffic its just a metric.

High page rank is good news for me but not what i needed. I need high SERP. My site is one page(IANA — Example domains) and competitors showing my keywords on their 2nd page(IANA — Example domains). It's i think also an advantage for me. I think it would work after sometime.

PR has little to do with your ranking if you don't have the right anchor texts. Let's say you want to rank better from your competitor for the keyword "beautiful cats". Then you should have more anchors with that word from backlinks to your website compared to your competitor. More means:

- A backlink with anchor of "beautiful cats" from a high-PR page with low OBL and do-follow counts a lot more than an anchor from another page that has higher OBL and lower PR. No-follows do not count at all.
- If you have anchors like "Beautiful american cats" or "beautiful cats & dogs" or "beautiful cat" they still affect your ranking for the anchor "beautiful cats" but less than the exact term. In fact having a variety of anchors has proved to be better many times.
- If you have your content optimized for the same keyword you have a better chance for ranking up. Overall good on-page optimization, again for the same keyword, helps your ranking for that.

Now back to PR story, if all of those conditions and other conditions are the same then your site with higher PR should rank higher than your competitor otherwise PR is just one of the many factors.

It is possible to have a high PR but still not feeling satisfied with the outcomes and web ranks due to various reasons. Not all link building campaigns would lead to higher PR and this matter is very important. You may gain a one-way link, from an authority spot and the PR of the page might be zero but the effects on your rankings could be just amazing. PR is one factor considered by Google to give ranks and traffic shares to websites and there are other factors to examine.

A lot of webmasters are looking for ways to increase their PageRank scores over the net and may use paid directory listings but when their sites experience PR boosts, they will notice that web ranks are more important that trying to increase the PR which is a number. Of course you can still find a lot of high PR websites with strong net rankings but PageRank alone is not considered to be a guarantee for achieving top ranks and getting finer web positions seems to be the key.

See, PR and SERP rankings are independent of each other.

You get good PR on the basis of quality of backlinks. A high PR does not give you good traffic or conversion.

Whereas, for SERP rankings, Google consider 100s of factors... Since you have high PR but low SERP rankings, so you should be worried because high SERP rankings give you traffic and leads.

Three things that you must focus upon to improve your SERP rankings,
- Quality of content published
- Quality of backlinks
- Social media reputation

PR has nothing to do with ranking check out googles webmaster central blog where they say that a site PR is just a factor and its one of the hundreds of factors used for ranking and this alone does not mean higher ranking.

Your competitor might be doing good on page and off page seo. Try to analyze your competitors website with free seo software like traffic travis. And see what you are not doing that your competitor does.

These statements are false. Your PR does effect your ranking. A higher PR just does not guarantee a good ranking for the keyword(s) you are targeting.

Everything else being equal, a PR 4 page is going to outrank a PR 2 page every time.

If you are having high Pagerank, It doesn't mean you should have high SERP as well, Both are different. Pagerank indicates the quality of backlinks whereas SERP indicate both quality and quantity of backlink (alongwith several other factors i.e. Onpage optimization, page loading time etc.)

PR is not the only factor that decides SERP of a site but there are so many other factors like quality of contents, bounce rate, internal link structure and so on. You just keep building the links and distributing your site using articles, forums etc. Over the time you will have better ranking.

PR doesn't mean that the site will have a higher ranking or rating. It is just a numerical value Google assigns every site. The factors involved in the rankings are not exactly the same as the factors that are involved in higher PR.
