why is most of my site not crawled in google webmaster tools

today i just checked most of my sites in google webmaster tool to my surprise found out that must of the PAGES in the site are not crawled that is they are blocked from been crawled by google this was indicted by the webmaster tools

what is the major cause of this problem, because i have pinged the site several times.

what should i do to make sure that all the pages in the site are all been index

It could be caused by a number of factors...

do you have robots.txt file and disallowed anything?
are there meta tags that could be causing the issue?
are your links nofollow?
did you put a canonical tag on all your pages to point to your homepage?
could be Google just hasn't gotten around to indexing the pages yet, perhaps because of your site's low backlinks/PageRank.

Your pages are blocked for being crawled? Check your robots.txt files, I am sure, someting is wrong there.

Check your robots.txt file and meta of a web page may be your used no index tags in meta tags.
