So I was checking out some Ryan Deiss advice and he mentioned that I need my keyword in my domain to rank well. Is this true? The reason I ask is because I have a keyword that is about 5 words long and the domain is taken, and adding extra words would just make the domain ridiculously long. Let's say my keyword is "how to make money online" and my domain was howtofly dot com, a totally unrelated domain name. Would it hurt my ability to rank? |

The short answer is no, but I guess I'd be expecting to see topics on flying in a howtofly domain. And by extension Google would expect this too. You will not be penalized, BUT you will not get a small boost with your domain name either. A matching domain name and keyword will give you a little boost, and may get you indexed more quickly. But to keep up in the rankings you'll need to do all the ggo things google expects. An LSI associated domain name may help, so instead of "how to make money online" try "how to make cash online" or a wide variety (replace make with earn, money with cash, a living etc and see if you can get a .org .net or .com. Sometimes adding an s to make plurals can be all it takes too. |

Comparatively speaking I don't think it makes much difference. Depending on your strategy, I would choose a domain name for your “customers” not the search engines. |

It is rare to be able to get a good keyword rich domain name anymore. One site I use to research available domain names is DomainsBot (domainsbot.com). You simply enter your keyword or phrase and it will give you a list of suggestions for a domain name that will usually be on at least the subject of your keyword.

Why you get domain with keywords is better? i) Help in SEO and SERP ii) People usually like to click on keywords domain because they know that what your contain is all about by seeing your content. Doesnt mean that domain without keywords can't rank well , as long you put more effort you still able to rank well in search engine. |

It doesn't matter. The idea is by optimizing the page. If your website is howtofly.com, make a page howtofly.com/how-to-make-money-online.html and optimize that page for keyword "how to make money online". Understand? |

it would help to show people what exactly you're promoting but not necessary. Keywords like type-ins are great and very valuable because thats what people search for. On the other hand, keywords that describes your niche or business is what will give others the sense of what your business is all about. But as we've seen with Google, Yahoo, Bing and many other awkward names, they have to build their brand in order to make the kind of money their making. That's why they all at one point started with investors believing in what these big companies had to offer. so the bottom line is ... any name or word works. Build it and they will come. |
