| Q. Everyone says I need more links. How do links improve the quality of the site? I don’t want to play this game and I don’t want to do this. A: What matters is bottom line. Links are a part of search – they represent online reputation. Although there are many tools that report links, none of the tools can tell you which links are trusted by Google (not even Google’s tools). While the link structure looks bad from the outside, the actual linkgraph that Google uses/trusts looks much better. When the New York Times complained about a site with 10,000 spammy links, Google investigated the site and not a single link had slipped through Google’s filter. Only the links Google trusts count. |

Thanks for sharing. Yes most of the software do the simple job of showing the incoming links , grouping and some metrics . Still it is human judgement that is important to evaluate a link .

LOL.... Matt Cutt's sole duty at Google is to use psycho babble to influence the masses. His probably referring to the JC Penny saga earlier this year: but wasn't JC Penny ranking for an insane amount of competitive keywords? And their site was only penalized after the story went public. Face it: an algo will always have holes and SEOers will always be able to game the system. Google knows that, and that is why they hire human reviewers. |

Google can kiss my Portuguese ass any time. I've seen and exposed a lot of artificial links - some of the sites even tell in their own pages they BUY links and how much they pay for it - and Google keeps them #1 in very though markets, exactly the markets Google keeps a close eye on top 10, and they even "delete" sites from there to "keep their rankings looking good". So, all the information that comes out of MR Cutts mouth is a) lies or b) misinformation. Google hates webmasters. P.S. JCP came back to the TOP of Google after a "short penalization" of 2 months or so. Go figure... What a bunch of $"##". P.P.S.: This is going to be a funny thread. Bet 100$ on it. |

Lol, never read too much into what Matt Cutts says or you will just be more confused. He usually never even answers a question directly.
