Whenever I go to check my backlinks, if I input in the search fields http://www.yourwebsite.com the results are different then http://yourwebsite.com Why is that? Is the www better then not putting it? When I build backlinks, how should I put the address as (www.yourwebsite.com, yourwebsite.com, http://www.yourwebsite.com or http://yourwebsite.com?) I've been building backlinks for a while but none of them are showing. I just want to know if I'm leaving my website address the wrong way...? |

The key is to either pick one or the other, ie: non-www or www, then ensure all your use that version. Also create a 301 redirect for your site so www goes to non-www or vice-versa depending on your preference. |

UMS is spot on, In regards to your other question there isn't a better version as such however I always find that having "WWW." in front of your domain always looks better especially in the search engines. (just my personal opinion)

I've been confused with this before. Now, I always use www when backlinking. Then like what UMS said, I just do a 301 redirect.

It's better to include www. But, you can also redirect the yourwebsite.com to www.yourwebsite.com through your domain host. That way, you wouldn't lose possible customers and traffic.

Either one is equaly good as far as you are stuck with that. From consistency point using www. is favorable in case you also want to use other subdomains like 'bogs.' etc. on your site. (www. is generally treated as default subdomain)
