Default WordPress SEO Question

If I am trying to rank for a specific keyword, should I create a wordpress category, page, post for it? How does this work?

Content is what appears in the SERPs.

If you have a wordpress blog and want to rank or compete for a keyword, then create a blog post for the keyword. You can also create a page but that should contain some content. That's simple

Create a post or page (though with posts you can add tags that relate to the KW)

Ensure your KW is in the post title, H1,H2,H3 headings . Have KW in first and last sentence , have KW density around 1-2 % , bold and italicise KW once near top of article. Add image with KW in alt tag ...this is a starting point

For blogs, I use one category. I don't add it for every keyword I'm trying to rank for. The category is just "keyword phrase information" and then all the content will be posted under that category.

For the content, you just need your target keyword in the post title. Work it into the first paragraph and the last one. Then a few times throughout the content.

Add related keywords into the post and link to other posts on your site which are targeting it. I think it helps to add outgoing links to authority sites too. That way all your links aren't self serving.

Hi Jason,

What are you trying to accomplish? Sella product or service? Get leads? Help and inform your audience so the can know like and trust you? What I would do is to ask yourself the question: What am I trying to accomplish with this and how is the best way to do it.

When you know exactly what it is you wan to do , the how is easy to find. Go to google or youtube. There will be a ton of answers you're looking for.

Blogging is a money maker if you know how to do it. Get your blog started today. I'll show you how.

Pretty much says it all

I would also add.. work on the internal linking structure within your site.

So for example if a Keyword you want .. lets say Page 1 to rank for appears on, lets say page 2..., then link it to page one using the anchor text.

This does work best the bigger your site is, and there are plugins that can make it easy to do, SEO Ultimate is an example, it can pretty much automate this process.
