nofollow are only good to show some backlink variety but not to pass some ranking juice to your site. In other words, they will not help you rank higher in google. As it was just mentioned though, you can get traffic if you place them in a popular site. |

Actually there's no way to tell, the fact is no follow means you r telling the bot not to pass the authority of the site, that means site won't get any trust, authority or page rank from the site but it should still rank for the nofollow if it was a anchor text as anchor text will let the bots know what the site is about.Dofollow anchor =authority + relevency and nofollow anchor =relevency. So when you get both you get authority and 2 times the relevency. So you need them both.

No follow and Do follow links are considered beneficial for the search engine because it is a combination of good traffic and quality backlinks. Links are links get as much as you can in a natural way for the sake of Google and visitors.

At the very least they'll give you some link diversity. So I'll never turn down a nofollow link if it's available. Plus, as others have said, you can get plenty of traffic from the links themselves.

It's healthy to have some nofollow links in your backlinking strategy. Like others before me wrote, you'll have some diversity which looks more normal to Google.

I haven't done a single no-follow link in my life and I enjoyed very good rankings, for very competitive words. I would say that you would be wasting your time with no-follow links. Just my 2c worth.

A link is always a link, no matter whether it is a do follow or no follow link,, you get the power from it.

Even if you get a Nofollow link from Wikipedia, it will not count. Matt says at the end of the video We don't use links from Wikipedia because they are Nofollow. In this video Matt says that nofollow links are dropped from Googles link graph making them irrelevant to search engines |

I never really know what to believe whenever I hear Matt Cutts speak though. I really do think he purposely tries to mislead us sometimes. | |

More info about people (including me :-)) got real results with high authority no follow BLs. Many do interpret "does not pass page rank" as "SEO benefit" which is definitely incorrect. I far as I am aware, much like everyone else. You need both do follow and no follow links because it shows diversity, and makes your link building appear more natural. I would certainly take what Matt Cutts says with a pinch of salt. After all why on earth would he want us to know the truth. Even if it turns out that no follow links do not contribute to page rank, good ones may still provide you with direct traffic via visitors clicking on the link.

Use the search function . this question comes up every other week. At the end of the day I am content with one fact. I have never come across a site in even a half way competitive serp that is ranking with only nofollow links and I have seen multiple sites fall in PR and fall in the serps when they lose their followed links. Thats all I need to know or care about. You guys can argue it around for the 50th time. |

I do take some things that Matt says with a pinch of salt but it’s quite clear that Nofollow links give no ranking increase. Look at Wikipedia for example. They added the Nofollow tag to OBLs to fight against spam, so that links from their site don't count. Quote from Google "Nofollow" provides a way for webmasters to tell search engines "Don't follow links on this page" or "Don't follow this specific link. We don't follow them. This means that Google does not transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links. Essentially, using nofollow causes us to drop the target links from our overall graph of the web." Think about it, the Nofollow tag was created for a reason. Backlinks ninja – What kind of "real results" have you seen with a complete Nofollow back link profile? Assuming you have ranked a domain exclusively using Nofollow links, as this would be required to definitely say the domain ranked from these kind of links. |

I can't testify to this being true but it would make sense in an attempt to diminish the authority of sites that rely on commenters for unique content or article directories that use nofollow tags. |
