Default Keyword Density for SEO Issue

I recently purchased one of those SEO plugins for wordpress which helps to SEO optimize your posts. These tools commonly want you to get between 2% and 5% keyword density.

When I don't pay attention to keyword density I have to struggle very hard to make it to 2% and once there, it does sounds a little stuffed to me. The reason is because the keyword is kind of long-tail. Obviously, it is easy to get 5% density if you have a single word keyword like "cars" but much harder to even get 2% if your keyword is "how to find the best used cars".

I'd love to hear the opinion of experienced SEO people on this issue.

SEO has changed a lot in the past year or so, particularly since Google's first Panda update back in April.

Don't spend your time fussing over keyword density, and especially don't if it's making your articles read badly. The article below goes into more detail and, at the bottom of it, is a link to an article on SEOMoz, which explains it even further:

SEO Has Changed | WealthyDragon

Cheers,

Martin.

Generally, 4-5% for the homepage and around 2% for your internal pages.... but as Martin said... things have changed a lot recently, and fresh, regular content looks like the way to go.

Just make sure the rest of you onpage seo is tight, title, h tags etc...

Keyword density hasn't been important for a long time.

Get your keyword in the title, H1 tag, ALT tag of your image and at least once in the text, closer to the top is better.

Then use the keyword naturally if it comes up as you're working on the article. That's it.

Such tools and plug ins are programmed for a certain keyword density and they will show your content as under optimization if you don't meet the defined density.

Its completely fine if you don't want to place keywords unnecessary in your content.

hi
more use of keyword may harm the idle keyword density in 2-5 keywords per 100 words, this amount of keywords is acceptable by the the search engine without seeing as spam.

The seomoz video was great, thank you Abledragon.

Overall, I'm honestly pretty happy to hear that the common opinion is that it does not matter much anymore. I was finding it easy to write good content fast but much harder to write content where you always have to think about inserting a keyword, especially multi-word keywords. Writing should be much more enjoyable this way.
