| If Keyword is a Person's Name, How Do You Rank It? Hi Guys I have been told to do some SEO for a person's name. If it is weight loss, dating or some other keywords, I can create articles, syndicate and create backlinks to the client's site. I got a bunch of tools to use, that is no problem. But how am I suppose to write articles with the person's name and backlink it?? I would be grateful for any advise. Thanks in advance! ![]() BigFred |

Same as any other way...use the person's name as the anchor text in the backlink.

Well, optimizing your website for person's name is very easy task. But the question is how many people will search for the name? If I think, I will optimize my website for C.Rebecca, I can do it easily. But how many people will enter C.Rebecca as their search query? For this campaign, first of all, you have to create a social buzz with the Person's name for encouraging people to search for the name. You can use social networks and blogs for creating a social buzz. |

The whole reason someone would request to optimize for a name is that they are selling a product or they are a prominent member of a business, and they want to be sure that anyone trying to do a little research doesn't type in the name and see a bunch of scam reports show up on page one. That being said, if you are going the article marketing route, include some quotes from them in the articles. That gives you an excuse to use their name, without it looking blatantly obvious, and you can hyperlink it.

You don't do SEO for the person's name, you do SEO for the person's niche. Big difference. Many people on this forum have theirnames.com, and rank quite well for good search terms. Nobody is going to be searching for just any Joe Shmo anyway. And if they were, their website, if indexed, must be #1 or pretty darn close. No SEO needed. But then, as I said, nobody is going to searching for Joe Shmo, except maybe mom. Paul |

Outside of IM, politicians do a lot of reputation management online. If you Google, "Santorum" for U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, something not too pleasant is at the top. People got pissed that he made some anti-gay remarks, and this was their revenge. Large corporations also are constantly monitoring SERP listings for their CEO's, CFO's, etc. No company wants people to Google the name of their CEO only to find a website that details how he slaps babies for sport.

If you want to target your keyword as a person's name, it will be easy for you to build links on it because the competition is very low. It is the same as the usual promotions in your site's product and services.

There are a lot of services with high authority that can be based on a person's name. If you search on my name, you'll see my Google+ profile, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter pages. You could also set up accounts on Tumblr, Posterous, Wordpress, Foursquare, Quora, etc. Then all those pages will prominently link to your about/profile page. |

You do it exactly the same way, just use the persons name as anchor text. just a little word of advice: if the person is very well known ie. famous! - then careful trying to build too many links for their name, One of my friends got a lovley letter from the lawyers of Oprah Winfrey as well as Britney Spears after building too many links and getting his site to rank for their names! |

You people are basically saying the same thing I was talking about. A person's name, unless there are a zillion people and famous who have it, will always be ranked #1 or at the top for just searching for that person's name. No SEO needed. One time when domain matters. More famous people, wikipedia will rule. So there's no SEO needed if your terms are the person's name. That in my opinion is not really "keywords." Ranking a personsname.com is a no-brainer, no effort. But ranking a personsname.com for a niche, that is what you need SEO for. Brad Callen just came to mind. Of course anyone searching for Brad Callen is going to get bradcallen.com #1. But he also does niche finder....That is what Brad Callen has SEO'd for, or at least one thing he has. That's the difference. Ranking a personsname.com needs to be SEO'd for anything other than the person's name. Paul |

Thank you so much for everyone's replies. I really need to rethink how I want to do this job. I don't want gibberish to be associated with the client's name either. Its actually a bit tricky. If I backlink with content that is re-written, then maybe that should be fine. I think! I don't know. Need to think. BigFred |

To build your Self as a brand, you have to own your name on google; and that means you need to push all the people with similar names lower in the search rankings and make sure people see you, and only you, in a positive context, on pages 1-2. So the OP's question remains, and is perfectly valid - is there a difference between SEOing a person's name as the keyword, vs. SEOing other keywords?
