Lightbulb Calling All SEO Veterans

Hey,

I have a site currently ranked #1 in Google for my main keywords. It has been there for about a month now and the niche is probably a medium competition one (ie: not super easy to rank, but not impossible either).

The site is about 7 months old and a PR 2.

Over the last 2 months, I have done some very aggressive link-building and have gotten about 20,000-30,000 high PR backlinks. I have also consistently added new original content daily over the same period.

I was just wondering what the next step is for SEO in terms of ensuring your site stays at #1?

When do you slow down on the content/link-building while feeling pretty certain that you site is there to stay?

Do I need to continue the aggressive link-building/content writing indefinitely or risk losing my rankings?

Any comments would be appreciated!

Thanks

I'd love for you to check out my site on guitar jam tracks and give me any feedback you can.

Hi

no one can really answer that for you, as we couldnt possibly know.

However its best to keep link building do something every month or so to keep things going, if ur site drops a bit then you know to do more next month.

you dont need to keep aggressivly building links, in some cases some sites hold serps with very little link building when you have got there, dont be afraid of dropping a few places in serps to find out what your strategy ahead should be, after all u got to number 1 you should be able to get it back if you lose it.

Im guessing the site in ur footer is the site your refering to! ur showing as number 3 for me on google.co.uk

It depends on the level of competition in your niche. If you see a site doing better backlinking than you, then you need to step it up. Unless your site drops in rank due to an algorithm update, you need only worry about other sites out working hard to outranking you. Not that you will just lose your position just by slowing down or stopping your backlinking.

Thanks for your input.

What do you mean by 20k-30k high PR backlinks? Was the PR on the homepage, or on the actual page where the link resided? The reason I'm asking is that if you got that many actual high PR backlinks, I doubt you'd have only a PR 2 site.

Regardless of your links, it all depends on your competition.

If your sitting #1 on a keyword with 9 other Authority sites with terrible on-page SEO and are just sitting in the top 10 because of their PR of their homepage/page that's ranking with terrible BLP (Backlinks to the page) than you can sit nicely at #1 without hardly doing anything.

I'd be more worried about competing with smaller MFA sites because they're looking for that #1 spot just like you have.

if you actually do have 20-30k high PR backlinks as you say you do (Which is very unlikely) it seems like that's a little bit of an over kill and you shouldn't worry about losing your ranking.

That is a very hard question to answer because the search engines are so unpredicatable. If your site is making you enough money and by that I mean (you are happy with it) Then i would not slow down. I have a few sites that average around £200 a day and around %50 goes straight back into expanding it and building new links.

Also 20-30k High Page Rank backlinks is crazy, if your in a medium competition niche then I really wouldn't worry too much as it's likely your competition will give up Lol

Hey improvman, first congrats on getting to #1. Second, as some have said above, this is an almost impossible question to answer, unfortunately. The only way to know is to test. You might have to do all of the things you are doing, or you might be able to do nothing at all at this point.

By the way, 20,000-30,000 High PR backlinks? Are you sure? What kind of links are we talking about specifically?

As per the rapid updates that are occurring in Google, there are no clear answer to your question because no one knows what will happen on the following days.
