Default Panda Update 3 Hours Ago Says Matt Cutts

I knew something was up. Matt Cutts Tweeted that there was a Panda update. I got creamed as usual. Time to pick up the pieces and move on.

Google makes changes to their algorithm more than 400 times per year. So that means more than once per day on average. The only thing that is constant, is change.

I have 4 websites, the 2 in my sig don't count cause they are brand new, but one websites is an old blog that I only build a few semi-quality links for a couple of weeks ago and this one raised 1 or 2 spots.

The other site, that once was my moneymaking site and that I worked quiet a bit on the last weeks increased 1 spot in the serps 2 days ago , and today it dropped 1 spot again lol. I just get stuck at this damn top of page 2

My linkbuilding last weeks was:

- 500 socialbookmarks (performed yesterday -fiverr job)
- 50 autoapprove blogcomments, but pretty selective list that was (created it myself, same list I used for my blog site btw that raised 1spot)
- 15* web2.0 creations (seolinkrobot)
- lot of metaindexing / pinging
- 13 HIGH PR3+ links (6-7of them had 100+ comments though)

So all together not too spammy I guess. Maybe if I didnt do this work I would have dropped more, who will say.

I dont need to promote anything!

500 social boomarks is kinda spammy. Especially when it doesn't do anything to rank.

As from some time google constantly changed its algorithm for providing more and more effective and relevant result to the people. So now it be so tough to get the better result all the time as now one need to walk with the panda update for getting the result and they have to change their strategies for many times. But change is the best for all.

The part I bolded above is what is important here. These "Oh No, another Panda update hit, the sky is falling" threads last forever here, and all people do is panic and waste time.

Folks, If you can't take the downs with the ups, then stop working in any arena in which you depend on the search engines.

All you need to do throughout any and all updates is continue to update your sites, continue linking steadily, and carry on. If you can't do that, SEO is not for you.

Well said!

So far as I've checked 2 hours ago my sites are intact, maybe even got up a few spots on secondary keywords.

What's done is done, it hurts and it's frustrating I know because the last update last month hit my site bad...but all we can do is keep adding content and links and keep on working on our sites and getting new sites as well....it's like poker and stocks, it's a roller-coaster and we should learn to deal with the downs as much as we deal with the ups and move on...

Good Luck all!

Personally, I would "tow the line" rather than toe it - that might get you a blister.

It's all swings and roundabouts. I've seen panda hit sites (14th Oct) totally regain previous rankings today with no interaction whatsoever. In fact, I saw a site get its traffic back after a 4 month penalty/sandbox/whatever you want to call it.

I've seen a few keywords go up. I've seen sales where i forgot they even existed and I've seen traffic drop like there was no tomorrow. Keep at it. Expand. Diversify.

So....you have had to pick up the pieces on, what, a weekly basis?

Google has real, honest-to-goodness algorithm updates at least once
a day. I pity the people who constantly watch google instead
of watching out for their sites and their own traffic.

No real changes for me, except my authority site has dropped 30% traffic, it remains to be seen as to whether it's related to Panda or not - not too fussed really, I know it's quality and any blips will sort themselves out as long as quality content is added that people love to link to naturally.

Panda seems to related to both. Not only that, Google counts social signals now too. Pages that are totally unloved by social media enthusiasts may drop too.

Yeah, you can't ever depend only on Google ranking, it's too risky.

Maybe I over stated myself. I usually lose 1 site to Panda every time it is run. Luckily I have been able to get pretty much all of them back over time. This time I lost 2 big earners. So my version of creamed is meaning losing about 1/10th of my revenue, so nothing horrible.

I am sorry Paul but when you own sites on things like cheap auto insurance, that have 1 or 2 pages, there really isn't much to look after other then your Google rank.

Not seen any changes myself. In fact after about a month I am finally starting to recover from the October 14th Panda Update which did hit me pretty bad. Totally agree with Cool Hand Luke. If you are relying on Google you will have peaks and troughs in your traffic but if you carry on doing the right things (adding content, building links) regularly and consistently in the long term you will rise.

Also try to build a brand with your site and make it easy for people to follow you. My response to the last Google Panda Update was to get create social profiles and interact with them as regularly as possible (this is 1 of my weak areas but I am working on it) in an attempt to make readers want to keep reading after the initial Google search that led them to my site. I'm slowly but surely building a list of followers on these platforms.

If you write good content that lets you rank well in the search engines because it really is 1 of the 10 best articles on the Internet for your chosen keywords then people who visit your site will remember the name and come back. Plus, they will also want to follow you and share your content with their friends. Make it easy for them to do that by having an email list, a Facebook page, a Google + page, an RSS feed and a Twitter account. Make sure you interact with them regularly via these platforms. Don't always try to push your content. Share other things from around the web that are interesting too.

Think of it in the context of the searcher. If you are ranking well for 'tasty cake recipes' and you provide them with the tastiest cake recipe they have ever tasted they will want to tell people about it. They might email their friends, they might share it at their weekly cookery class, they might post it on Twitter, they might even have a cake recipes blog and link to your page. However they share it, the point is that even if Google decides later down the line that your 'tasty cake recipe' page is not so good and dumps it, you still have a group of people who think it is and will be eager to read your future posts.

This very forum is a perfect example of that. I'm sure they get a fair amount of visits from Google but if anyone asks me for advice on starting a website the Warrior Forum and ProBlogger are 2 of the first places I send them. I imagine a lot of their traffic comes from reputation and word of mouth.

Ask Men is another great example. If I have a spare 5 or 10 minutes I go to their website directly and read their latest articles. I originally found them through a Google search but I like their style of writing so I return regularly and have a read. If 1 of their articles is really interesting I tell my friends to check it out.

Having a group of real people who like your site will make dealing with Google's peaks and troughs a lot easier as even if Google doesn't love you all the time, they will.

I used to read Matt's blogs regularly once at a time. Nowadays I depend on my experience. Yes Yukon is quite write. After building some backlinks everyday watch rank of your webpage. This will be much better practice then reading Matt's blogs!
