Backlink count all messed up

I was checking one of my sites links today and noticed they had dropped in half, checked another site same thing. So to be sure it wasnt me I checked my competitions links and few sites not related........ same thing. Is there something going on with backlinks? has your backlink count dropped?

Please do not reply if your going to pull that quality link BS. Its happened to every site I have checked so please reply if you have this issue and know whats going on.

It might help if you mention what you are using to check your backlinks.

I have tried about 10 different scripts. Its strange like I said I have tried it on several sites that are not mine , one domain is 12 years old and had 12,000 backlinks and now it show a little over 5k.

i think you r using YSE to check links.YSE stop updating it's self long time ago..it's no longer a working tool.Anyway google webmaster tools will give you a huge amount of backlinks data.
