Can anyone tell me why my CPC is so low. I'm in position 1 on google for a long tail keyword, 6,600 exact monthly searches, with a CPC of $2 I've heard you only receive around half that... but I'm only getting a max .30c Why is this? I haven't really tinkered with adsense, looked at some literature... do I need to adjust settings or something? |

Is that $2 CPC based on the Google Contextual Tool?

Where did you see $2? In Google kw tool? those number are not accurate, they are WAY overinflated as Yukon Says, Check Google kw tool, Click on "contextual" tool and check what comes up there |

| yes too expand on this, go into your adwords and on the left hand side click on contextual targeting tool and then enter your keyword and see what cpc you get. To be honest the rate you are getting sounds about right, most keywords i have are around $2-3 and i get around $0.3-0.7 |

Hi Thedog. It is my understanding that there could be a few reasons for this.... Firstly every Ad displayed on your website wont be paying $2 per click.. thats the average so some clicks are going to be higher and some lower - you may just be getting clicks on the lower.. infact this makes more sense - someone who is able to achive a higher CTR is going to have sliptest their ads, which means they probably know how to reduce their cost per click. Secondly, and I doubt this is the reason - you may have been smart priced. This is when an unusally high number of clicks results in very little or no sales. When this happens on a regular basis Google will reduce your CPC. If this is the case then it is account wide and not on a per site basis... that means it will affect all of your adsense sites not just this one. Hope this helps a little |

Hi guy, I had no idea about this contextual tool... thanks for the feedback. Now it gets even stranger, I put in the long tail keyword in the contextual too, and it's even more than the keyword tool, €2.41 - $3.26 The funny thing is, 2 other keywords I'm targeting in this niche have much lower values than this keyword in the contextual tool and much higher in the keyword tool. In the keyword tool, they have over €6... and just over €1 in the contextual tool. This makes no sense... |

thedog, welcome to my world! i just achieved ranking with a keyword that gets 12k searches per month, i am getting only 1 or 2 clicks, and each is getting me 0.5$ ! CPC shown on contextual targeting tool is $2.5 - $3 --- On Keyword tool CPC is $5.38 that is why I targeted this keyword and now I am not making anything. |

adsense.... should be called, no-sense do you think if we target a keyword with .05c CPC... we'll hit the big time? I just got offers of advertising for 2 other adsense sites from ad agencies. This site has much more traffic, and the niche is pretty commercial. Anyone know how I can track down a potential client who may want to advertise on my site? | |

Hi, Do you get enough visitors? Maybe, it's a niche where the visitors like to read your website and don't want to click on ads. Also, when you type your keyword in Google, do you see a lot of Sponsored ads. These advertisers are probably targeting your keyword and are highly relevant. When there are no or a few advertisers, it means your website will likely to show "other irrelevant ads" which don't have high pay-outs. If you have a lot of advertisers targeting your "keyword" in Google.. then you know they are some who MUST bid a lot of money in order to appear at the top... Do you understand what I mean? Sometimes you need to do some basic research on advertisers... |

Obviously the low payout could be any number of things happening. One other thing that can change CPC is the Interest-based Ads setting in the Adsense Admin. which you will never have any idea no matter what you research for the CPC, until after the clicks happen & you check your data in the Adsense Admin. CPC with Adsense is one of those things, you get what they give you, it will never be the same one day to the next. You need plenty of traffic & long term data to get an average for CPC. One to three clicks isn't much data to work with. |
