What are your alternatives if the exact match domain is already taken? Will you buy a domain with a prefix like 'the' or 'my' to the EMD? How easy is it to rank for a domain that has a 'the' in front of it?

I prefer to add a word to the end. Eg. if halloweencostume.com is taken, i would try getting halloweencostumeideas.com EMDs arn't as powerful as they used to be! So may as well get another keyword in there, thats the way I think about it |

I'd say just add a word ideally to the end but the beginning is still okay as well. Some people even just add a letter. EMD's are good for very focussed sites but you can add a lot more to a broader domain name. |

Hi! You can make a brand-able name for example: iphone4world.com, or you can just add a work with a meaning such as iphone4review and so on. It doesn't need that all the content is then about review but just try to take care of a certain keyword you're trying to rank at with EMD. Daniel |

Not to be harsh but ...who cares? You guys who focus on EMDs are in your own little world, and if you will add a word to the beginning or end of the phrase KeywordReview.com, then it definitely is NOT an EMD any longer, and any small benefit that an EMD would have supposedly given you in the serps is gone so why do that? If you guys pass by kws where the EMD is already taken (and I know a lot of you do) I think thats just passing by a TON of great kws because you are so intent on finding EMDs I am with Yukon on the EMD strategy. I think it provides Very Little if Any Benefit. But what confuses me is when you guys start adding words or changing the EMD, to me that is totally ridiculous to now claim that the name variation has anything close to the benefit of an EMD. If I have BlueCars.com and you go in and buy, MyBlueCars.com I have the EMD and You Dont So why would you think that your name variation has any benefit SERPs wise? Do you think Google is that desperate to see the kw in the domain name that it will just take Any Domain name variation? I have a competitor who ranks 1,2 on about 500 kws in my niche and he CERTAINLY of course does not have the EMD how could he?they are all on the same domain, ranking because of high PR backlinks, and onpage SEO |

I agree with outwest. Do yourself a favor and build a BRANDABLE site. I own several now and even the ones that are a few weeks old have new posts indexed (and ranked) within minutes.

Agreeing with Outwest and wolfmiii here. EMD's are fine if it is just 1 keyword you are looking for but if you can select a larger group and build on a brandable domain then all your work counts for a lot more. Then your pages can be named as the KW you are targeting and as long as your site is interlinked well, all the links going to that page will also help the other pages/keywords targeted. |

Just go for it, dont fear nothing and try what others are stating, i used to be like that before but now just add a E or something after the domain, but plz remember to optimize the post for that particular keyword and create some high quality backlinks and u will be fine!!

Seriously, let it go (EMDs). If you plan on ranking only a single keyword, hat's off to you & keep your EMD. When you want to build a multiple keyword site, brand the domain & rank internal landing pages like the big boys do. Who cares that the Index page never ranks for a keyword? As long as any other page ranks that you are promoting, that's all that matters. |
