In my niche, it seems that wordpress sites rank higher than non-wordpress sites. Does the layout and structure of wordpress sites complement crawlers? Or is this just a coincidence?

This is right that Wordpress is more search engine friendly and also user friendly at some extent so it gets indexed early and rank also.

It is just a coincidence. A well planned HTML site will rank just as easily and many times outrank a Wordpress site. It is not an issue of Wordpress or HTML, it is an issue of how well you implement your structure, optimize for your phrases, and create your backlinking structure. In most cases an HTML site loads faster so gets brownie points from Google for that. It is just easier for most people to properly structure a Wordpress site compared to an HTML site. |

Would it be fair to say that HTML sites take a lot more effort to put together (design, layout etc) than Wordpress where I only have to pick the theme, throw some plugins at it and add the content?

I personally use Wordpress for most of my sites because they are created for regularly updated article content, which is what Wordpress is ideal for. I have used Dreamweaver in the past with templates and could create sites very quickly that way. I'm not sure it is any faster once I install Wordpress, add plug-ins, setup categories, create custom menus, etc.... The more important aspect in your decision should be the intent of the site.

Its because, wordpress ia like readymade platform to build a website. Where as for HTML you have to do everything from scrath. Wordpress is integrated with many search engine friendly feature. If you can create a search engine friendly HTML website, you can outrank wordpress website very easily. |
