I have PR1 on a 2month old site and I've never done any backlinking. I do have 40 pages of unique content. I do want to try some backlinks soon, but I'm afraid that I'll look like a spammer.

try to find high pr pages (not sites) , and place your link there. Also nofollow-dofollow tags in links plays a mazor role . So try to get high pr Dofollow backlinks. |

You can get up to PR3 without any backlinks whatsoever. PR1 should be no problem to achieve with a few links. |

It totally depends on where the links come from, i.e. how much juice flows from the page linking out. PR is more-or-less a logarithmic scale. So for example, if it takes roughly 10 PR 1 links to boost your web page to a PR 1, it will take ten times that to boost your web page to a PR2 or 100 PR1 links. The answer to your question is far too dynamic to lay out in simple numbers. |

Why do you worry about PR? It does very little value, except it paints the white bar green in your Firefox SEO toolbar.

First off, Page Rank has no real value or interest unless you're trying to sell ads/link space. Second, there are many more factors than backlinks determining PR. I have a PR5 site with hardly any incoming links, and the few that I do have are from low PR sites, like 0 and 1. Third, counting links coming off a page to yours you need to divide the PR of the page by the number of outbound links on it. In other words, if you have a link pointing to you from a PR5 page, but there are 100 other outbound links on that page, then the PR5 effect is diluted by a factor of 100, broadly speaking. Fourth - the site relevancy is more important than its PR. Fifth - Page Rank is meaningless and has no bearing on the site's capacity for getting good SERP's. Site Authority is important and is what determines your capacity for getting good SERP's. So my advice would be to focus on building authority and don't worry about Page Rank. |
