Arrow Using Backlinks as a weapon?

I signed up for backlinking report website and noticed that someone is creating XXX backlinks to my website...

What are you guys interpretation on this?

Is it harmful to your website?

How can you really defend against this?

Don't worry about it, Google will never hurt your site's rankings because of low-quality backlinks; at most, it will just discredit them.

Not something to worry about. If it was everyone's competitors would be would be shooting back links at each other.

This is simply not true. Be careful making statements out of opinion or hearsay.

With the Panda updates, you absolutely can be hurt by 'bad' link profiles. Even before Panda, Google can and does penalize for certain paid links. If someone wanted to, they could buy 'bad' paid links to you.

So I can get to the top of SERPs by blasting all my competitors with bad links? Really? You really think that would work?

You can try though with at least little success. However, this is less effective than spending that effort on improving your site. That's why the people at higher skill level of SEO never tries in that way.

Links can and do affect the rankings, regardless of who creates the backlinks. That's why when you're doing your own SEO, you still have to be careful when creating your backlinks. The same tactics that you avoid when doing your own SEO are things that can penalize you, and it doesn't matter if it's done by you or by someone else.

I definitely believe that backlinking can be used against you. Albeit, to a site that has been around for a lot longer than most it's unlikely - try flooding your new site with a ton of backlinks and see what happens.

I recently tried flooding a new site with backlinks (as a test) and it's ranked in the 100's.

This is with no reciprocal linking and no shady outbound linking.

So yes, it can be used as a weapon.

If you do not work of the link building for your site and if someone else done this then this means that someone else is doing the illegal seo for your site. As have you heard about the reverse seo?

if you have found the sites which contain these links yo ucan contact the admin and see how they got there - also, ask for them to remove them. cant think of any webmaster who wouldnt mind less outbound links on their site TBO!

also a couple of bad links isnt geoing to ruin a site- so long as you are building more, and more quality
