PPC for business help

HI, my friend and I are running an appliance repair business down here in Southern CA. We're having trouble advertising PPC due to the amount they charge ($12-$20) for the ad to just show up. I am wondering if you guys have any PPC for small business WSOs that I should read or know people who help small businesses. Any advice/help will be appreciated. Thanx
