hi when you search on google you see sometimes in websites with regular description and other times websites/blogs where google takes the date and puts it in front like: 10th April 2011 - <then the description> are these dates hurting SEO? is it better to get rid of them or makes no difference? same sub-question about "posted by author" thanks |

I always remove dates...I have no hard data on this, but it seems that Google is always tweaking their algorithm for "freshness"...and if my site isn't fresh I don't want to publicize that fact. I mean, Google can probably figure it out anyway simply by sending spiders and seeing that the site doesn't update...but still, no need to help them out! On the other hand, it might make no difference whatsoever...so...*shrugs* |

Count me in as someone who removes dates too. But that's simply because something outdated doesn't appeal to readers as well....

I'm sure Google could tell how old a page is, or how "unfresh" a website is regardless of if you have the dates displayed or not.
